@Epictets1 @sjs856 Flawed exposure (billing codes ≠ true vaccination status) + detection bias (more visits → more diagnoses). That’s enough to explain the results.

She was vaccinated. Manufacturer inserts for meningitis vaccines say the shot can cause symptoms resembling meningitis, including acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, seizures (convulsions), and other neurologic reactions that can present with fever, headache, and altered mental status. Other meningitis vaccines explicitly list eye disorders following vaccination, like eyelid ptosis, which is linked to blood vessel and nerve issues. fda.gov/files/vaccines… fda.gov/media/78514/do…

@RattusFlattus @DrNeilStone @lizditz The treatment is actually just the vaccine. They would have had to bring him in right after getting exposed. They likely either didn’t take him at all or declined the vaccine when offered. It isn’t effective if it’s administered after they’re exhibiting symptoms, unfortunately.

@1useyourbrain @DrNeilStone Reducing carriage of N. meningitidis to interrupt transmission isn’t controversial. It’s basic microbiology and epidemiology. At this point, you’re dismissing study design, mechanism, and decades of public health practice. That’s not a scientific argument. Moving on.🔕

@1blmoss @DrNeilStone If you knew anything you should knew better about “Open-label” and “Africa” Your "unethical" excuse is stupid, even your given paper use an "unethical" design Meningitis "outbreaks" is BS excuse DBRCTs are required before even think to use a medical intervention to such extend

Absolute nonsense Ciprofloxacin is used to help prevent the spread of the bacteria causing a meningitis outbreak in the UK It does have potential side effects, but usually with long courses, but a single dose is safe...and a hell of a lot better than getting meningitis
John Olooney@OlooneyJohn

Ciprofloxacin This is the antibiotic the NHS is prescribing for preventing the reported meningitis outbreak which i doubt at all frankly based on their historical lies. Look at the side effects of the "medicine" drugs.com/sfx/ciprofloxa… Make sure you clap on doorsteps for these serial liars.

@1useyourbrain @DrNeilStone You’re asserting a standard that isn’t used anywhere in infectious disease control. Placebo DBRCTs aren't required before using interventions during lethal outbreaks, especially when prior evidence already supports benefit. That’s why cluster RCTs and real-world data are used.

@1useyourbrain @DrNeilStone Placebo DBRCTs in meningitis outbreaks aren’t done because withholding expected benefit is unethical. Cluster RCTs are appropriate for transmission-level interventions. CIP ↓ carriage of N. meningitidis → ↓ spread → ↓ cases. “Open-label” and “Africa” aren’t valid critiques.

@1blmoss @DrNeilStone DBRCTs never done my dear BEFORE they start using that worthless & at a high degree harmful intervention, & that's the UNETHICAL part, not the other way around. And the paper you cite is BS evidence (OPEN-LABEL🤡, cluster-randomized trial) of anything, especially for "Africa"

@DrNeilStone Please give us the DBRCT where was established that "antibiotic use" PREVENT MENINGITIS FYI dear 🤡expert🤡 You can't call it "prophylaxis" if that haven't been established in required clinical trials. If you call it "prophylaxis" without evidence that's misinformation boy

@1blmoss @PattyMurray If you are buying a replacement online bc you lost yours, that’s true. When you request extras at city hall, in the major city I got married in it cost $3/copy. That is a fact.

Nearly 70 million women have changed their names. Under Republicans' voter suppression bill, women may need to provide proof of citizenship AND documents to prove the name change, like a marriage certificate. If you ask me, that's not very pro-family of Republicans.

When the measles vaccine was introduced we averaged 400+ measles deaths/year in the U.S. Mostly children. Anything that efficient at pediatric mortality is not “statistical zero”. That doesn’t include morbidity either. Please don’t speak when you’re uneducated.
Carl Higbie@CarlHigbie

So surely you can show me the data that says the measles vax saved all these lives then… cause measles death was at a statistical ZERO 10 years BEFORE the vax was introduced.

@1blmoss @sjs856 That's not data, it's a summary. CDC doesn't have any evidence a measles virus kills children.
