Today, after taking hairpin turns on a Maui highway for just shy of an hour, I climbed over a retaining wall with broken metal footholds buried in the facade. She opened a dry bag. Inside, I put my shoes, shirt and hat. Thirty feet across the water, I walked on logs and half submerged stones, before coming to a bamboo meadow. Dark inside. I followed her close, occasionally cracking jokes, but mostly in awe. From there, we forded a shallow river that sputtered down the rocks behind us. Overzealous, I dove, immediately banging my knee on the uneven, ruinous riverbed. It, of course, did not hurt. A husk of an old dam, reclaimed by fallen trees and unstoppable foliage gave way to a deep pool. Bamboo swayed above us, and moss dripped to either side. The water from the moss felt more alive than most people I know. Little sprites falling from tendrils leaving me totally mesmerized. Cameras could not capture it. She dove into the pool, and I followed. Not a strong swimmer, I found myself beat down by the waterfall. In my understated desperation I found a ledge just behind, and she yelled over to me that the pool is always hungry. That maybe I should try the smaller falls. I dove, and positioned myself under one to the side to sit. Pounded by the water, I watched her. Perched on a rock.

This mf really got me out in Maui chopping wood and carrying water.

@Jameslight96 Any lover of wisdom will realize how vapid the ladder is and how stuck most speculative "thinkers" are in their own structural walls. Most armchair intellects are in prisons of their own abstraction - where the Spirit is but a flicker in ice. Real philosophy is as rare as wisdom.

It’s lost to rationality, though while the essence is irrational (unknowable in itself), so is ultimately the being who rationalizes, and any ground of rationality. This is not to say that irrationality is a lost battle by any means

For me, it's Albert Camus. I think he is a brilliant writer but an awful philosopher.

@shedrinkswater absolutely real. Both sides are afraid of what it means to incorporate the lessons of the other and feel vulnerable. Passion can't exist in that fear.

I genuinely think the hatred towards each gender comes from the suppression of passion.

So many women move around men without ever truly knowing how to love them, and you can feel the absence immediately. A man can endure hardness, neglect, even years of emotional famine, and still remain standing, but the moment he is touched by something that feels like real love, something in him just gives way. You know it when you have been touched by real love and in front of that kind of love, everything else begins to look performative and painfully insufficient. simply unnecessary.

@remusrisnov @tanya_eves @Plinz Thanks Remus! Tbh the arts are having a revival in SF too, and we've been able to both create a container for them and start moving funds into it. This is always how a Renaissance starts. With the creatives.

SF is having a renaissance. The minds, the curiosity, the AI-native thinking, ambition to actually move science forward. But a renaissance without art, music, and performance is just… a tech cluster. That’s still the missing piece.
