𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬: @circle 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐂𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 🇫🇷 🇪🇺 I am proud to share that we have received our authorization as an e-money institution (EMI) from the French prudential regulator ACPR. This EMI license enables us to issue both EURC and USDC through our regulated French entity in a MiCA-compliant way. Starting today, EU customers can open Circle Mint Accounts with Circle France, allowing them to directly access and redeem USDC and EURC in a MiCA-compliant manner, utilizing common EU payment systems like SEPA and SEPA Instant. This marks a significant milestone for Circle and also for me personally. The European crypto market is set for a major transformation this year, with non-compliant stablecoins ultimately disappearing from EU exchanges and crypto-asset service providers. We view this as a tremendous opportunity for the growth of EURC and USDC in the region and are doubling down on our efforts in the EU. 𝐀𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 50 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐔𝐒𝐃𝐂 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐔𝐑𝐂 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐂𝐀-𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭. Today's milestone undoubtedly represents the largest project, challenge, and success I have been working on so far. I joined Circle less than two years ago, when EURC had just launched, and Circle had already committed to bringing EURC and USDC to the EU in compliance with new MiCA regulations. Over the past 18 months, we have worked tirelessly to achieve this, and it is no coincidence that we are now the only major global issuer to make it happen. Navigating MiCA’s rigorous standards and rules is complex, especially for global stablecoins. In close consultation with French, EU, and US authorities, we have designed and implemented a robust and compliant dual issuance model for USDC, with Circle France becoming the issuer for our EU customers. All USDC out there remain globally fungible. EURC will be fully issued by Circle France, with all reserves held by Circle France in compliance with MiCA standards. Huge shoutout and thank you to all Circle colleagues involved in this project— way too many to tag here—whose teamwork and dedication have made this possible. Really grateful to be part of this team. I am about to publish an article with @ddisparte on how MiCA’s implementation will fundamentally transform EU crypto markets this year. This will also be the topic of my presentation at EthCC in Brussels on July 9th. So stay tuned! Incredibly proud of what we have achieved and even more excited for what lies ahead for us in the EU 🎉 💪
