Over time this steals our ability to build a comfortable future for ourselves and our families. We end up with useless junk instead of investing into assets. You could earn $250k salary today in this country starting from nothing, with no family wealth nor assets to fall back on, and you'd still be fucked. House prices must fall by 90% or median salaries must increase by 10x. There is no other equation that works. Everyone pretending like there is some way you can otherwise balance the books is retarded. There's no peaceful solution to any of this, but ensuring the next generation actually has a chance at building a normal life would be the moral thing that 'wise elders' would actually do. By definition, old people eventually die. If you continue to invest in old people, you are accepting as a society that the future simply does not exist, for people will not have kids in a world they believe will be worse every year that goes by. Many of the solutions to the problems of today involve accepting that the money to fund the future has to come from the generation that stole it from everyone else in the first place.

South Africa chose capital controls plus monetary independence, sacrificing your freedom to move money. Bitcoin breaks that equation. When you can custody your own wealth outside their system, their capital controls become meaningless. Eleven million South Africans remain unbanked. For them, self-custodied Bitcoin is their bank. The same government claiming to care about financial inclusion just moved to criminalize the only viable savings technology these people can access. Bastiat would recognize the paradox: what is seen is "investor protection," what is unseen is the destruction of the only escape route from monetary theft. The comment window closes May 16th.
