The largest solar flare of the current solar cycle (and the 17th most intense solar flare ever recorded!) occurred momentarily ago as a behemoth X8.7-class flare let loose from the very infamous parting Active Region 3664. It is the most intense flare seen since 2017. #spacewx

A number of stablepools (alETH/msETH/pETH) using Vyper 0.2.15 have been exploited as a result of a malfunctioning reentrancy lock. We are assessing the situation and will update the community as things develop. Other pools are safe.
Vyper@vyperlang

PSA: Vyper versions 0.2.15, 0.2.16 and 0.3.0 are vulnerable to malfunctioning reentrancy locks. The investigation is ongoing but any project relying on these versions should immediately reach out to us.

In a remarkable display of bipartisan unity and American tradition, on a cold day in January 2009, outgoing President George W. Bush extended an invitation to President-elect Barack Obama and all living former U.S. presidents for a special lunch at the White House. This gathering held significant meaning as it took place just two weeks before the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, a cornerstone of American democracy. Despite being from different political parties – George W. Bush, a Republican, and Barack Obama, a Democrat – they set aside their differences and met privately for about 30 minutes before the wider gathering. During this private meeting, they likely discussed the various challenges and responsibilities that the incoming President Obama would soon be facing. The meeting demonstrated the essence of the American democratic system, where political rivals can come together and ensure a smooth transition of power. Following their private meeting, the two former Democratic presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and the elder Republican statesman, George H.W. Bush, who was the father of the outgoing president, joined the scene. They gathered in the iconic Oval Office, with journalists present to capture the historic moment. It was a symbolic and heartwarming gesture, as it marked the first time in 27 years that all living former U.S. presidents came together at the White House. Standing side by side in the Oval Office, the leaders represented not only their respective political parties but, more importantly, the spirit of unity and shared dedication to the nation they had all served. George W. Bush expressed gratitude to President-elect Obama for joining the gathering and emphasized a message of support and goodwill. "I want to thank the president-elect for joining the ex-presidents for lunch," Bush said, with Obama nodding in agreement. The younger Bush's words conveyed a powerful sentiment that transcended party lines. "One message that I have, and I think we all share, is that we want you to succeed. Whether we're Democrat or Republican, we care deeply about this country," Bush stated. It was a statement that resonated with the American people, reassuring them that the leaders, despite their political differences, ultimately had the best interests of the nation at heart. This gathering of former and future presidents showcased the essence of democracy and the peaceful transfer of power that has been a hallmark of American governance. The event was a poignant reminder of the enduring strength and resilience of the United States, capable of navigating political changes while upholding its core values. As President Obama prepared to take the reins of power, the lunch with his predecessors served as a symbolic torch-passing, signifying that he was stepping into a long line of leaders who have shouldered the immense responsibility of the presidency and aimed to make the nation better for all its citizens. In the years to come, this historic gathering would be remembered as an exemplary display of unity, respect, and the unwavering commitment to the ideals that make America great. It would serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration, encouraging future leaders to put aside partisanship and work together for the greater good of the nation they serve.

Life is full of scams that people never question. They don't realize they're scams. They live asleep. Your home #mortgage is a scam. Someone decided that when you pay your loan over time, your payments barely count towards principal, until much, much later. They could have made that curve a different shape. Your payments could go more to principal instead of interest in the beginning. This is just one of many, many scams that people just endure, unaware.

What are all the things you love about #cryptocurrency? Here's some. Your bank has worse hours, makes you beg for your money, if you're pulled over with lots of cash the cops will just take it from you and you will not get it back (civil asset forfeiture.) If you live in a country with currency controls like Argentina where they make you use a currency that goes down in value half each year, and they make you pretend it's not actually going down. You can track the ownership of many things that aren't currencies like art, designer goods, even houses. It helps prevent crime because it actually leaves a permanent public record of everything that was done, which is something cash doesn't do. It reduces the costs to send people money, and can remove the 1.5% tax on basically all retail commerce that visa and mastercard have over the world. It's also the best performing asset class of al time. What did I miss?

Because I am a big supporter of oceanographic exploration, research, and media pertaining to both—and I founded and support @oceanx in doing these things—I have been asked many times to share my thoughts and feelings about the OceanGate expedition. My thoughts and emotions are very mixed in ways that I will try to convey. By way of background, because I believe that the ocean is our greatest asset that has been terribly neglected, I am trying to improve the situation through my efforts with OceanX. That has brought me deeply into the community of those in the underwater world. I was told about the loss of contact with the OceanGate vehicle about two hours after it happened because there was some chance that one or more of OceanX's underwater vehicles could help in the search for the passengers. But given the simultaneous disappearance of all the vehicle’s systems and other indications, the consensus among the undersea community quickly became that the vehicle had had a catastrophic implosion. At that point, I felt both a deep sadness for those on the expedition and their families and great anger because I knew that the tragedy was due to reckless disregard for tried-and-true safety protocols that have made manned submersible exploration extremely safe. I knew that OceanGate had created its own experimental vehicle with materials avoided by others, decided to bypass the certification processes designed to assure safety, and chose to ignore the warnings from many experts within the submersible community. I also knew that no submersible that was operated under classification rules has experienced anything like this over the last 40 years, with millions of people having gone on many dives for many years, including dives that were much deeper than this one to the Titanic. In other words, submersible diving, and the ocean exploration that it provides, has been safer than flying on a commercial airplane or driving in a car. So the needlessness of this tragedy was shocking to me. At the same time, since I knew from the first day that the OceanGate craft had almost certainly imploded, as I watched the media drama play out until yesterday, I wondered how much of it was being provided as news without wanting to convey the full picture until the definitive end out of consideration for the missing people's family and friends--and how much of it was to pursue a nail-biting story to hold people's attention. In the end, I felt that it was all so tragic.

@RayDalio Watch the ceiling be reached before the election finalizes. A geopolitical issue is going to rear it's ugly head and create more expense than "expected." But of course that is just a thought.

I was asked what I think of the debt deal, so here it is in a nutshell. It was as I expected, which is the best the one could expect, though not good enough for the following reasons: 1. Bipartisanship: Grade A. The middle held together against the extremists in their parties. That's a big thing. Is this the beginning of the emergence of a strong bipartisan middle bound together against the extremists? Let's see how it goes. 2. Dealing with the debt problem of adding too much to a pile of debt that is already too large: Grade D. It won't make much of a difference. 3. Planning a smart bipartisan commission to make debt and economic reforms: Grade B. There was recognition that it is desirable for this to happen after the 2024 elections to avoid the conflict in the middle of the election campaign. That is why the two-year extension was sensible.

The answer to changing healthcare is embedded in this 33 seconds- Looking at the factory he built, Elon says he would rather “lose power and money” than not speak truth. But at every hospital, Med School, & pharma co, leaders are KNOWINGLY lying bc truth would hurt income. We don’t need international conferences at universities to discuss the nuances of healthcare reform. We don’t need more think tank panels. We don’t need more studies. We need adults to have a moral conscience and stop throwing patients (especially kids) into the shredder to prop the largest and fasted growing industry in the country (healthcare) We need doctors who treat autoimmune diseases to stop signing patients up for lifetime injections and start talking about how food interventions can keep them out of the hospital for good. We need President Biden - who received more donations from pharma than any member of Congress in American history - to say NO when he is pressured to pick a person to lead the NIH who received $200 million from Pfizer over her career. We need members of the Trump administration to admit the disastrous error of appointing a panel to create nutrition guidelines that had 95% of its members on payroll of food and/or pharma companies. We need nutrition researchers to refuse donations from food companies. Instead, it is the lifeblood of the industry. We need medical association to declare obesity and diabetes are reversible - which they refuse to do because their business models are “managing” conditions for life. The medical community needs to stop throwing up their hands that “lifestyle interventions are hard” when they profit from the failure of these interventions. The American Medical Association needs to stop lobbying against preventative health (which they continually work to undermine because it hurts profit) and start lobbying for curbing government funding of sugar on programs like SNAP. It is so simple. People undermine @elonmusk often - but if the leaders of our healthcare institutions had 50% of the fearlessness and first principle thinking, our country would be transformed. The Dean of @HarvardHealth needs to look across the beautiful campus. The head of the @MayoClinic needs to look across the beautiful facilities. And the CEO of @pfizer needs to gaze across their beautiful HQ. They then need to decide that the future of our children are worth leveraging their positions for, even it means losing wealth or power. They need to decide the first principle of health is keeping patients healthy, not managing disease. Leaders in healthcare know the truth - they just need to speak it.
