“We have gone deeper into materialism, deeper into narcissism, and more into war and violence. There are more divisions and hatred now than there were 200 years ago. Even in the last 50 years, the condition of our society has degraded drastically into more hatred, violence, and greed. Greed is now the main factor driving the lives of most people, and when you fall prey to greed, you are willing to do away with most moral principles because you want to get what you want. From that standpoint, it never made any sense to me when somebody says that we are in the ascending Dwapara Yuga, because consciousness has been declining rapidly over the last 200 years. Besides, if you consult texts like the Mahabharata, which tells you the kind of society that existed in the previous Dwapara Yuga, you would see that people were virtuous, society was elevated, and people had many powers that could manifest. There were avatars like Krishna and Balarama, and I’m sure there were similar avatars in other cultures as well. Very high-souled people who were guiding humanity. They were sages who provided knowledge, wisdom, and guiding principles. We don’t have that today. We don’t have that guidance, and we don’t have those powers. We don’t have that virtue in our society, and our society today looks nothing at all like the society of the previous Dwapara Yuga, so it never made sense to me.
