My phone is blowing up Many businesses are TOTALLY F'Kd, some invested millions assuming CUSMA was ironclad some will get wiped out completely many Canadians are deeply deeply hurt here. Our relationship with the Americans is severely damaged.

@TheOmniLiberal 1-2 weeks it will be fine. If it takes longer, it takes longer. Eventually, they’ll realize retaliatory measures won’t help and they’ll have to bend.

We are 2 weeks into Trump's presidency and we have our largest trading partner and one of our closest friends, Canada, levying an insane amount of retaliatory tariffs on 10's of billions of dollars of goods in response to this unhinged Administration's absolute insanity.

The US is 4% of the world population but roughly 30% of global consumption. Tariffs work for us precisely because we have the most desirable consumer market on earth and can force concessions in a way no other country can

@tmophoto @Zeneca It would take years, assuming companies don’t just wait out Trumps term. Construction costs are going to sky rocket due to an increased cost of goods and a mysteriously missing labour force.

@Zeneca It might move manufacturing back to the USA. It would take months but it might happen. It definitely happened to China during Covid for other reasons but manufacturing moved to other Asian countries pretty fast when everything was shut down in China.

@ethFRENCHIE @Zeneca There were ways to do that besides pissing off your biggest trade partner. We’re now going to be forced to sign trade deals with China, which nobody wants.

They are largely about negotiation leverage. If they stick, they'll decrease our reliance on foreign supply chains. It's ridiculous that the world's superpower is this dependent on imports, particularly in areas critical to our defense. Sometimes, the cure for a disease isn't going to be painless.

Trumps “victory”was really a submission. Colombia was allowed to do what they said they’d do under their own terms.
