Not sure I can stress enough how valuable having elite pickers are for offenses. Setting picks with cushion opens up options and creates confusion for defenders. Need more people coaching this from the youth level up through HS. Overall IQ and indiv/team 2man ability would 📈

Typical Interaction: *Player shoots high to high/ low to low *Goalie makes a save *Coach yells “change planes!” *Player has to take next shot high to low (because most don’t allow underhand) Then.. A) Player misses cage B) Goalie all over it C) Player scores & Coach says “see what happens when we change planes?” The point is not to never change planes. But the point is to encourage mixing up your shots and being deceptive. Goalies will make saves - but we don’t need to over analyze every miss in a vacuum This post ruffled some feathers on our IG more than anything we’ve posted in awhile. But I’ll stand by it and have enjoyed good discussion with the coaches that have reached out

Would it be crazy if no youth lacrosse players used long poles prior to middle school? I feel like everyone should start off with a short stick for a few years. Easier to get the basics, have fun, everyone plays O and D more like basketball.
