Chris Nikic, the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman, completes Ironman 70.3 Massachusetts. Shortly before the race, Nikic announced that he needed a guide to run alongside him for the race. That's when Dr. Tommy Martin decided to step up. "I learned more in this race than almost any other I have competed in, and none of it was about race tactics or how to PR. It was about life, perspective, determination, and grit. I owe all of that to Chris," Martin said. "I hope every finish line Chris crosses serves as a reminder to the world: your diagnosis, your situation, your circumstances do not define your potential!" Congrats, Chris! On my way home this afternoon, I spotted an elderly white woman lying on the sidewalk at the corner of Peoria and 49th Street, while a young Asian woman was trying to talk to her. I quickly turned around and parked in the Burger Street parking lot just as another car arrived. I got out of my car at the same time as a young Black man. We both checked her condition and saw that she had fallen backwards while using a walker, hitting her head on the concrete. I said I would call for help, and the young Black man went to his car to get a soft jacket and gently placed it under her head to protect her from the scorching heat of the pavement (it was 38°C today). Soon, other kind people arrived. A young white woman took an umbrella from her car to protect the woman's face from the sun, while another brought towels to place under her bare arms. A young Hispanic employee from Burger Street came out with a bucket of fresh water and a cloth for her forehead. Together—Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic—we all worked to help an elderly white woman who had fallen. This is the America I believe in and love: an America filled with compassion, kindness, and love, regardless of race, age, or gender

Meet Officer Nuttall from the Bradenton Police Department. Recently, he came across a homeless family on the streets, where he met a deeply distressed mother who was crying due to their lack of shelter and a dog to care for. At the same time, her young son was sobbing from hunger. In an inspiring display of humanity, Officer Nuttall took immediate action, treating the family to a delicious pizza meal. He set up arrangements with the Humane Society to care for their dog for the night and secured a hotel room for them as well. To ensure their well-being continued, he approached us at the Salvation Army for assistance in finding them a place to stay once their hotel occupancy ended in the morning. We are committed to helping them. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Officer Nuttall for his exceptional kindness. Please share this to shed light on this incredible act of human kindness and to recognize the valuable work this officer does!

This is Richard Webb. He's my father-in-law. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Marine Recon Sniper. He received two purple hearts for his service along with countless other medals. This photo is seven years ago... Today, Richard spends most days not knowing what the hell is going on because he developed type 2 diabetes from agent orange in Vietnam. My wife has been fighting the VA for over a year to get Richard the care and benefits he needs just to survive. The process is a joke. The service is a bigger joke. The VA case managers are absolute dog shit and treat our nation's heroes like garbage. They also act as if they're doing our vets a FAVOR for the most basic of care. @SecVetAffairs, I've been to your headquarters building in DC, and have first hand experience dealing with the incompetent staff. This is hands down the most embarrassing department in all of the Trump administration. If the Boss knew how horrendously our veterans are still being treated after you've had eighteen months to fix these issues, you'd be fired tomorrow. I waited a long time to write this, but at this point I've seen enough.

In September 1942, a single Japanese floatplane lifted off from a submarine off the coast of Oregon. In the cockpit sat Chief Warrant Officer Nobuo Fujita, carrying two 170-pound incendiary bombs and a 400-year-old samurai sword beside him in the cramped space. His mission? Drop the bombs over the forests of the Pacific Northwest, start a massive firestorm, and force the U.S. military to pull vital resources away from the Pacific theater. Fujita released his bombs over Brookings, Oregon. But the mission failed. Recent rain had soaked the forest, and alert park rangers put out the small fires almost immediately. The war continued, and the strange, isolated attack slowly slipped into the margins of history. Until 20 years later. In 1962, a civic group in Brookings came up with an extraordinary idea. They found Fujita and invited him back as the guest of honor at their local festival. The invitation caused national controversy and split the town. But the deepest conflict was inside Fujita himself. Deeply ashamed of what he had done during the war, Fujita accepted the invitation with a dark private promise. He packed his family’s ancient samurai sword in his luggage. Later, he admitted that if the Americans put him on trial for war crimes or publicly humiliated him, he planned to use the sword to commit seppuku, ritual suicide, right there. But when he stepped off the plane, he was met not with hatred, but with handshakes, applause, and a town offering real forgiveness. Overwhelmed by the mercy of the people he had once attacked, Fujita stepped to the podium and did something no one forgot. He knelt and gave the town his most treasured possession, his family’s 400-year-old samurai sword, as a lasting promise of peace. For the rest of his life, Fujita helped fund student exchange programs between Japan and Oregon. He even returned to the exact place he had bombed and planted a redwood “peace tree.” When he died in 1997, Brookings named him an honorary citizen, and his daughter later returned to the forest to scatter some of his ashes on the land he had once tried to burn. Today, that 400-year-old sword is displayed inside the Brookings Public Library, not as a trophy of war, but as a masterpiece of peace.

Do me a favor. When you get a quiet moment to yourself, stop. (I’m not a creep, just a papa to my adult daughter and 3 grown sons). Go to your vanity or bathroom mirror and just look at yourself. Congratulate yourself for who you are, for what you’ve accomplished. My kids were quick to criticize themselves for too many mistakes. So I thought one day, I wonder how often they devote “mirror time” for their successes. You were on national TV competing with some of the best athletes in the world. You owe yourself mirror time. Thanks you for your example and running for the Cougs!

A new study found that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the highest active retention rate of ANY religion in the country. President Hinckley said, “The strength of this church lies in the hearts of its people, in the individual testimony and conviction of the truth of this work.” Let’s continue ministering with love so that every member feels connected to the Savior.

I respect you so much. Your courage to navigate the political quagmire bc of conviction and not a D or R after the name impressed me very much. I believe you have gotten a few raw deals in your day, but you just keep grinding. I think the closest example next to you is Sen Fetterman. Honest, courageous, accountable, humble and willing to SERVE. Rare, precious example. Thank you
