The Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, today led his team on an inspection visit to the Okpai Independent Power Plant in Ndokwa East, in line with the clear directive of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori (@RtHonSheriff), to leave no stone unturned in delivering stable and reliable electricity for Deltans.
With a current generating capacity of 480MW and an additional 450MW underway in its second phase, the journey toward a stronger, electrified Delta is no longer just a vision; it is unfolding in real time.
The state government remains focused on maximizing existing power facilities, particularly the Okpai Power Plant and others across the state. Beyond discussions, deliberate steps are being taken to engage, evaluate, and unlock the full potential of these assets.
The goal is clear: to deliver power that drives businesses, fuels industries, creates jobs, and improves everyday life for the people.
Delta is rising, and this time it is powered with purpose.

Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State; and Ifeanyi Okowa, former Governor of Delta State, were among dignitaries who attended the burial of Pa Israel Chinwuba Ogbue in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Also present was Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), who laid his father-in-law to rest, alongside other political leaders, lawmakers, and captains of industry from across the country.
In his remarks, the Vice President described the passing of the 99-year-old patriarch as a “glorious exit,” commending his life of faith, service, and lasting legacy.

In a video shared by Channels Television, Sani said there was a time when he and then Vice President Sambo were in Saudi Arabia performing Umrah when then President Goodluck Jonathan urgently needed to travel out of Nigeria. He stated that Jonathan called Sambo and asked him to cut short his trip. Sani added that Sambo had to return to Nigeria earlier than planned so that Jonathan could travel out
In Sambo's words: "There was a time we were in Saudi Arabia and there was an urgency, the president wanted to travel. I and the vice president were conducting Umrah, lesser hajj, and the president called him and said when is he coming back? He said, 'We are supposed to come back in the next 6 days'. Jonathan said is there any way we can cut it short because he has to travel. Of course, there was a way we could cut it, we just decided that after the Umrah we would just rest, but we had to return back"
