If that happens mine is getting shut off for the duration. Will power it on once a day to see if things are back up. I work in a lot of areas with marginal cell reception and yeah, no service utterly murders your battery. Will power up the Starlink mini and iPad and see what's going on. If that doesn't work, I will start eating my neighbors.

Understand something: If the grid goes down, if the cell networks fail, if the internet goes away... All those devices you're carrying around are not only still trying to connect to them, they're actually noisier trying than they are when they're actually connected.

Coming from the west coast I find St Louis to look cleaner and just feel safter than Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and most of the smaller cities in California and Oregon. The Gothic revival architecture is beautiful. The homeless camps are mostly contained to a few areas and major crime isn't widespread. Its just really bad in specific parts of the city.

He used the wrong argument. The proper argument would be "A drivers license is a tax paid to avoid being kidnapped and having your property stolen by government agents over a minor, usually victimless traffic violation" If he said that, it would probably end in the exact same outcome. But its a more accurate description of the purpose if a drivers license. It sure as hell isn't proof someone can drive well, or within the legal framework of road use.

I pulled over a 22yr old man from NC. I requested his license. He replied "I don't need one". "I said "You dont have it with you or you don't have one"? He said "I have a right to drive." I replied "Driving isn't a right its a privilege". He disagreed. I wrote him a ticket for no license. I then asked him if he had anyone that could come get his vehicle. He replied "No I don't. I got the ticket I can drive my car home". I then told him I would be towing the vehicle. He then asked me what he was supposed to do. I said to call a taxi, Uber, or walk. He said "Walk? Thats cruel!" I said "You're a visually healthy 22 yr old man you can walk to any of these businesses in the city & sit down & get a game plan together. Our kids have never stepped inside a public school. The oldest was in kindergarten and one semester of first grade in a private school. All since then has been homeschool. We recently moved to Missouri, so the kids could know my wife's family. Their great grandmother was a career state dept. of education employee. I am pretty much the family target for why we raise our kids as we do. My wife's entire family, aside from my father in law, are multi generational Jefferson City alumni. They literally despise me, something I recently learned is more than suspicion. It all comes down to how we parent, how we school them and how we openly raise them to embrace our nation while constantly questioning the leadership. When we moved here for some reason they thought she would get a job and the kids would go to public. We've been here a year. None of that has happened. Our kids are still, and will remain homeschooled.. and at this point the extended family can fuck off with their opinions.

When people defend public schools by saying they're great for socialization, this probably isn't what they have in mind.

Last year during an interview, I made a mistake by referring to people in the DeFlock group as terrorists. I was wrong to say that, and I should have cleared this up a long time ago. That's my fault. Around the time of the interview, I was hearing reports of ALPR-avoidance apps being used (on occasion) for serious crime avoidance, and I conflated that with legitimate criticism. Being concerned about your privacy or how your local law enforcement agency conducts its operations isn’t terrorism, it’s American. DeFlock is not a terrorist organization, it’s an open source project that has gained popularity primarily due to our inadequate response to the questions and concerns that people have about ALPR.  Over the last 8 years, nearly 7,000 towns, cities and counties in America have purchased our ALPR cameras. While these cameras have done a tremendous amount of good in those communities, the recent awareness surrounding their existence has also spiked a fair share of criticism. I think we have failed to answer these questions and concerns at scale, and we are going to do a better job of that moving forward. I know @Rahul has banked a bunch of questions from X last week for us to answer, but feel free to reply with more here. He and I are going to do our best to catch up on these and answer them.

If i dont want to be bothered or tracked I have a faraday bag for my devices. Its a consensual choice to allow my phone to track me. I do not consent to being actively tracked by a private corporation selling data to law enforcement. There is no reason a sherrif that pulls me over in North Carolina should know to ask me why I was in Oregon three weeks prior. My job takes me through sketchy neighborhoods. What stops flock data from being used for me to be pulled over and searched because my truck was flagged near multiple drug neighborhoods? There's too much potential for abuse. I'm sure they help solve some crime but at what cost? Do your job, push detectives to work harder and convince voters to approve more funding for that purpose. These networked cameras are part of the dystopian future many novels and movies warned us about.

Ever wonder what would happen if Flock cameras grew wings? Meet Skydio. Skydio is a California company hiding under the cloak of “bringing manufacturing back to America” by producing drones that we used to buy from China, and then selling those drones to police departments so they can spy on you just like the Chinese. In a recent case they accidentally livestreamed their 'secure' drone footage directly to a public facing website for anyone to see. They weren't hacked by some enterprising citizen, they did it of their own volition (stupidity). Flock is not the only enemy, and we are going to need more than a bandsaw to deal with this emerging, layered threat.

You want to see boomers show up to a zoning hearing and get angry then try and get the area next to their neighborhood zoned for multi family housing. Or really any housing at all. I watched a 100 home development lose zoning after they started building when the boomers realized it would lower property values and cause slightly more traffic.

@Fat_Electrician I wouldn't say it is intentional. The average voter in no way understands why homes have gotten expensive. So, there is no real way for politicians to capitalize. Housing costs have skyrocketed primarily from demand, square footage, government regulations, and modern amenities.

Correct. It’s not about the $5 coffee. It’s about the fact that the government keeps adding more regulations and zoning requirements, which increases the cost of building new homes. They do this because the largest voting demographic (baby boomers), who already own homes, benefit when home values continue rising year after year. We have real-life examples. Austin, Texas, eased permitting and some restrictions, built a significant amount of new housing, and has seen lower rents and housing costs as a result. The government is intentionally creating this problem by limiting supply, thus artificially inflating costs to pander to the largest voting demographic.

People who don't follow such stuff would be amazed what can be done with a digital photo, a laser printer, and some gelatin. And back in the mid-2010s, TSA learned the hard way that having a major newspaper publish a high-res photo of every TSA key was a bad idea. And they still haven't changed them. And don't get me started with what a decent red teamer can do with a decent photo of an employee badge. Lest we forget, tons of people had proof of vaccination cards. Tons of those same people never got a shot. Funny how everyone posted their shot cards online. Must be coincidence.

Graph go up! It may not seem like much to a lot of you... after my son was born in November I got on a scale at the pediatricians and realized I was 230+. I've never knowingly weighed over 200lbs. I'm 5' 8" and really should never be over 200lbs. It took until March before I decided to get in the gym for the first time in over 15 years. I discovered that not only was I fat, but my general strength was absolutely fucked compared to my late 20s when I regularly lifted. Recently I got my weight down under 190. Today I was able to bench slightly over half my body weight. This is a huge accomplishment for me. My goal is to bench my bodyweight by the end of the year. Everything beyond that is bonus progress. My gains are pretty much the same across muscle groups and exercises. I'm proud of myself. It hasn't been exactly easy. Ive missed days, had a few weeks here and there I didn't make the gym at all. Started kayak fishing too, all paddle, no trolling motor or pedal drive. Paddle, cast, repeat. Generally turns into a couple of miles worth of active paddling, plus I get to fish too. Anyways... if you think its too late to get healthy and active. Its not. It took me being fat, 45 with a newborn son plus 3 daughter's to realize I need to get my shit together and live long enough to raise my kids and meet their kids.
