Several cities experienced a March with a monthly mean temperature that matched or exceeded the April monthly mean temperature record.

Fairbanks, we just lived through the history books. The numbers are in, and the Dec-Mar 2025-26 season will go down as the all-time coldest on record for Fairbanks. This marks a dramatic reversal from last years 2nd warmest Dec-Mar timeframe, dropping to the record coldest. #akwx

It is a real and significant problem. How much urgency you assign it depends on your values, your risk tolerance, and how you weigh present costs against future harms.

The science supports treating it as serious and urgent. Whether it rises to the level of “emergency” justifying emergency powers or radical economic disruption is a legitimate political and values debate, not just a scientific one.

The argument implies that because cold exists somewhere, the western heat is not a concern. That is a false equivalence. Climate change does not mean warming everywhere at once, but more extreme swings in both directions, more often.
ChescoWx@ChescoWx

So Don since you are pointing out a "concern" about some upcoming warm weather....what say you about the incredible record extreme cold streak in Fairbanks Alaska? As you know when one spot is cold like Alaska another area may run warm...neither cold AK or Warm west are the need of any concern, We call this typical cyclical climate change!

My goodness. This is one of the more impressive forecast soundings I've ever seen for very heavy snowfall. Even with strong winds causing some snowflake destruction, this would pile up very fast. Very busy day ahead with the family, I will post more as I can.

When you have a vertically stacked system as depicted here (18z NAM quite similar), that's when you break out the books. Posting this to advertise what the ceiling is (sans snowmaps of course). This isn't ironed out yet, but the high-impact *potential* can't be understated here.
