The Green Party. I have a friend who's a councillor for the Green Party. She's a wonderful hard working woman. She helped householders whose houses were flooded a couple of years ago, stayed up all night helping them pump their houses out and move furniture; helped volunteers clear the river of debris; got all new planters and bins for the village square; attends all village events; opposes all development applications on farmland and green belt; gives immediate attention to any problems people are having; got new road signage. I could go on and on. She'd actually make a great MP. She cares about her village, her people and the environment. Unfortunately, she's not standing for re-election because her party, she says, has been infiltrated by lunatics and anti-Semites. Isn't that sad. ☹️

@CMochan How do you know that Carol. I for one have never been asked. On the face of it, it seems a compassionate thing to do. Once the detail is known,people get cold feet. There’s no cast iron protection for the lonely, vulnerable, frail people who might feel a burden on the world.

Unfortunately Holyrood has again not acted in line with the vast majority of this country. People want a compassionate choice for those who are terminally ill, and now there is none. Far too few meaningful bills make it through this Parliament. We must do better.

This is gamekeeper RUSSELL MASON of Bridge of Cally, Perthshire. He trapped a rare bird of prey in a cage before beating it to death and was caught out by a covert surveillance operation. Mason, 49, lured the protected Goshawk into a baited trap before battering it several times with a cosh to cause its agonising death. He was also found to have left nearly 200 rounds of live ammunition lying around in his bedroom and unsecured within his Polaris Ranger vehicle. Mason admitted intentionally or recklessly killing a Goshawk on 12 February 2024 by seizing it with a net before repeatedly striking it with a cosh on Cochrage Moor, Bridge of Cally, Perthshire. I was never a member. But I chatted to them a lot. I was 19. I was a liberal leftist for a lot longer. Then I changed my mind thanks to what I experienced over years in schools. Why is changing our minds when evidence is presented seen as a bad thing? Isn’t it good?

@theiaincameron Rannoch moor is peppered with these relic tree stumps. Virtually every exposed patch of peat or peat hag has them. Whilst the trees look like they were never the largest of their species the area they covered was very extensive, pretty much the whole moor.

One of the most evocative sights of the Highlands is seeing the ancient Scots pine trees’ ghost-like stumps emerging from the peat. Relics like these have been carbon dated to around 5,000 years old. Back then, the climate was 1-2°C warmer than today and trees were able to colonise higher altitudes. Subsequent cooler and wetter conditions, as well as possible human impact, meant that these trees died off, fell, and were covered by peat for thousands of years. The pale and bleached relics we see emerging slowly from the bog remind us of what we used to have.
