@JimCognito2016 probably untrue because he's simply the most self serving and power hungry politician in our nation, but if true this would essentially be the end of the current reform run; he's the most popular figure by a wide margin, I don't see how populism survives

EXCLUSIVE: Reform insiders have told me Nigel Farage is unlikely to lead Reform into the general election & they're making plans for his replacement There's much more to come from his donations/house purchases & he's conceded to party insiders that he won't be able to continue

@bluewmist If they mention having a garden when they were younger. In the UK at least, this is a big tell. Only property owners have gardens.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled?

@moving_charlie have a functioning system where land banking is disincentivised (we need a land value tax) and where planning permission is fixed and where developers can engage and undercut in price action easily. Flood the market with homes. It's doable. ALL housing should be cheap.

@moving_charlie demand, demand in incredibly vast quantities. The question is why that doesn't translate into developers building cheap housing. In a normal market they would be competing to build as cheaply as possible, and therefore to sell them as cheaply as possible. This only works if we

These are close to where I live in London. Available? Yes (no shortage). Affordable? No. Not to buy, or to live in. Building more private homes doesn't fix the problem.

@SebMilbank Work in the NHS in vital capacities, who would not have been able to if they did not receive said social housing. Consider the larger implications

@SebMilbank I would never have had the education, opportunities or employment in London. My current tax burden would have been a lot lower if I grew up in hull or something. Social housing is probably a net benefit to the city and to the tax man. Not only that but 4 members of my family now

Some local thoughts follow...So I'm reading up on my local elections, having recently moved to the area, and I'm learning that my borough (Lambeth), has one of the biggest waiting lists for council housing in London... 🧵

@Victoria_Spratt Boggles my mind that we can use supply and demand to accurately inspect every other tradeable goods and services, but the second we talk about housing, it's all out the window. The solution is SO simple we figured it out decades ago. Build more houses.

@captgouda24 @parkstone9 For instance, the majority of our current housing stock was built during these years. The majority of our rail infrastructure was built during these years. Same for hospitals, roads, bridges, etc. We’re clearly not better off now

It is no surprise that Britain is struggling; after all, they were for many years a communist country.

@foreversho1 Fighting for more for yourself means fighting to let the market correctly price the value of labour. Train drivers are subsidised by taxpayers. That makes YOU poorer. So the guy really is fighting for more for himself.

@foreversho1 UK companies pay pennies because they EARN less. They EARN less because they have to pay MORE tax, MORE operating overheads (energy, other goods and services, labour) and consequently have a smaller profit margin.

@carolinedowney_ Men need responsibility. Woman are now providing for themselves, and do not want kids. This is very simple. We're literally hardwired for this, and if we don't get this we go into crisis like you see now.
