Is it time for UAE to go into full defensive mode?
Despite what we have seen through this Tour with UAE riding very actively, this will be a bold take, but I think they should ride absolutely defensively until the last stage. Why? There are many reasons.
First there are a few small reasons. Adam Yates is sick. There is no reason for UAE to make his life harder. Then I am sure Pogačar is thinking about winning in yellow on the Champs-Élysées. But for that, he needs to arrive there not completely spent. The same can be thought with his possible Vuelta participation.
But then there is the main reason. Isaac Del Toro. Why risk making the stage so hard he might get dropped when he is the one having a 20-second lead over Seixas for the last podium place?
No Alpe d’Huez record or win there, no team classification, and showing your strength is worth losing bigger prizes like a podium with Torito, for example. For me, it is up to Decathlon to make the race hard and attack.

Paul Seixas and Valentin Paret-Peintre, the only hopes for the Alps.

@PolymarketSport But I was told the whole team hates Trump by the unathletic libs on social media today ! 😂 I bet 95 percent of the team is conservative like Messi Kane Ronaldo and others

Remco 2nd place after being dropped earlier, he beats Lipowitz, COMEBACK OF THE CENTURY! He had the mental of a big champion today. 👏👏

To be honest I get the decision if Pogačar wants to ride the Vuelta. Why?
1. This year, no top rider is riding the Vuelta, no Vingegaard, no Seixas, no Evenepoel, probably also no Lipowitz. Only Roglič, Gall, Mas, and Uijtdebroeks are confirmed so far. Why not take the opportunity to make the race for yourself easier and win it more easily?
2. Get it done. Only the Vuelta is missing from the Grand Tour trilogy. Why not make it as soon as possible?
3. Monaco home start.
4. Almeida does not look perfect, and UAE don’t have another leader for this race as Isaac Del Toro will ride only one Grand Tour this year.
Plus, in my view it was clear that the UAE were thinking about the Vuelta possibility when planning the calendar and putting a low amount of race days for Pogačar before the Tour.
And you? How do you see it?

@FinnDraft What does that have to do with Splitter? Summer League lineups barely matter. The better question is why did the front office not bring in a true PG thru the 2nd round/UDFA as a backup option if the Swain experiment didn’t work out. That’s obviously not Splitter’s decision alone.
