China is sitting on massive oil reserves: Chinese crude oil imports surged +15.8% YoY in February, the biggest monthly jump since August 2023. Growth rates have QUADRUPLED since the end of 2025. After over a year of stockpiling, China has built up an estimated 1.2 billion barrels of reserves. This includes ~851 million barrels of commercial inventory, the supply that would likely be used first. Meanwhile, refiners could start drawing as much as 1 million barrels per day over the next 4 to 6 weeks. In the first week of the Iran War, Beijing already ordered its biggest refiners to restrict fuel exports and prioritize gasoline and diesel production over chemicals as a precautionary move. China is playing the long game amid the Iran War.

India in January privately proposed preloading of Aadhaar app on smartphones. Apple, Samsung, others resisted the proposal. In January, smartphone industry body MAIT emails show, UIDAI requested that Apple, Samsung and Google preload national ID Aadhaar's app on smartphones; UIDAI believed pre-installation would allow citizens to "readily access essential Aadhaar functionalities". Apple, Google, Samsung-backed MAIT were of the view that pre-installation "would not drive greater public good", and that such mandates require companies to maintain separate production lines for India and exports Govt has made six such requests in two years, but industry has consistently opposed them, one MAIT letter says. Tussle over apps preloading has become a recurring flashpoint between Modi's government and tech firms tinyurl.com/mv6n3b8e With @MunsifV

MORGAN STANLEY DELAYS FED RATE CUT OUTLOOK Morgan Stanley now expects the Federal Reserve to cut rates in September and December, pushing back its earlier forecast of June and September. The shift reflects a more cautious Fed after the latest meeting, with Chair Jerome Powell signaling that clear progress on inflation is still needed. Rising oil prices and geopolitical risks are adding uncertainty and complicating the Fed’s policy path. The bank sees a balanced stance from the Fed but notes markets may face volatility in the meantime. It warns the biggest risk is that rate cuts could be delayed further—or not happen at all—unless economic growth weakens sharply.

Intel to Raise PC CPU Prices by 10%, Adding to PC Manufacturers’ Cost Burden Intel plans to raise prices on its PC central processing units (CPUs) by 10%. With profitability already under pressure from soaring memory semiconductor prices, the upcoming increase in CPU prices — another core component — is expected to further weigh on PC manufacturers’ production costs. According to industry sources on the 19th, Intel has notified major customers that it intends to raise PC CPU prices by the end of this month. The price hike is said to cover most of the key products across Intel’s diverse CPU lineup. The move is seen as Intel’s effort to protect margins amid a supply-demand imbalance, as surging demand for AI data center semiconductors has reduced the supply available for consumer products. The CPU, which serves as the brain of a PC and determines processing speed and performance, is a critical component. Intel holds approximately 70% of the PC CPU market. While AMD and Qualcomm are also expanding their PC CPU supply, Intel’s dominance remains overwhelming. Against this backdrop, Intel’s price hike is particularly damaging to PC manufacturers, as rising production costs will sharply deteriorate their profitability. Memory prices — another essential PC component alongside CPUs — are also seeing unprecedented surges, driven by memory supply shortages stemming from expanded AI infrastructure investment. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, memory prices rose by as much as 180% quarter-over-quarter in Q1. PC manufacturers are now on high alert as prices for essential components spike. An industry official noted, “The biggest concern for manufacturers right now is the rapidly rising cost of components. There are fears that if Intel CPU prices rise on top of everything else, operating profits will fall sharply and companies will struggle to stay afloat.” Major PC makers are responding to the crisis by diversifying their supply chains and increasing the proportion of higher-value AI PCs in their product mix — a strategy aimed at defending profitability through greater sales of premium products. However, since memory prices are expected to remain elevated through next year, PC manufacturers’ difficulties are likely to deepen further. Rising component costs are also expected to feed through into higher PC retail prices, increasing the burden on consumers. Separately, market research firm TrendForce projected that if memory and CPU prices rise simultaneously, the combined share of these two components in notebook BOM (bill of materials) costs could reach as high as 58%. It added that memory price increases alone could push retail prices for standard laptops up by more than 30%, and that with the additional CPU price hike, total price increases could approach 40%. $INTC

An effective way to fuck TV companies!
Mullvad.net@mullvadnet

Our TV ads – under the concept And Then? – were banned in the UK, by Clearcast (an organization formed by the major TV channels in the UK which, on behalf of the authorities, must approve all TV advertising in the UK). Their arguments included: · “The overall concept lacks clarity.” · “It is unclear why certain examples are included, who the ‘speaker’ represents, and the role of individuals depicted in the car.” · “Several examples (e.g., paedophiles, rapists, murderers) risk causing serious offence and could imply that the VPN facilitates criminal activity.” · “Referencing topics such as: Paedophiles, Rapists, Murderers, Enemies of the state, Journalists, Refugees, Controversial opinions, People’s bedrooms, Police officers, Children’s headsets … is inappropriate and irrelevant to the average consumer’s experience with a VPN.” We think their arguments are nonsense. On the one hand, censorship and mass surveillance are escalating in the UK, through new laws, government pressure and proposed legislation. On the other hand, criticism of censorship and mass surveillance is being blocked through processes that are arbitrary and – to use their own words – unclear. When we tried to criticize the TV ads ban through outdoor ads, they were also banned by government bodies. We believe the situation is both Orwellian and Kafkaesque. You can watch all the banned ads and read more about escalating mass surveillance and censorship in the UK on our site: mullvad.net/and-then/uk And then? When our ads were banned on British TV, we took them to the streets instead and projected them onto walls in London.

We all have our own things But it's ridiculous to verify your identity on social media😂
Rick Song@rickcsong

I know that posting about Persona these days is a decent way to generate engagement, but tbh, I never expected to be catching a stray from Proton (which I am and remain a big fan of). First, just to clarify some of the points regarding Persona: 1/ Although we are capable of running 269 checks, they're split across more than 40 types of verifications. Many of these verifications are gated and require additional due diligence to gain access. There is no customer who is even close to using all 269 checks. And as far as I'm aware, there is no customer of ours who would be so sadistic to put any user through 40 different verifications (might as well just forcefully churn them at that point). 2/ Regarding sanction watchlists, these are used and required by our financial services customers for KYC/AML who make up a significant part of our business. The face comparison is only performed if there is a false positive match against the watchlist, and this is common practice to dismiss a match (given that 99%+ of sanction matches are false positives). 3/ As you stated, data can be retained for "up to 3 years". This is the *max* that a customer can choose to. X is actually configured to redact your data immediately after you are verified. Despite the recent media attention, Persona is actually not an age verification business. Our core business is securing how personal and sensitive data is collected, retained, and redacted. While many other identity verification providers exist, platforms like X choose to partner with us because of our unique focus on building the best-in-class controls for data access, security, and retention for them. Lastly, we are and remain huge fans of Proton. I believe our teams have actually spoken in the past to explore ways Persona could collaborate with Proton Pass. And I've also personally had a Proton Mail since 2015 during its beta. Although I understand (and honestly, really respect) your position on age verification for VPNs, I'd still be incredibly excited to explore other ways our teams could work together in the future!
