Signal acquired! 📡 Engineers at @NASAJPL have confirmed that the Orion spacecraft is communicating with the Deep Space Network. For the first time in over 50 years, we’re receiving a signal from a spacecraft carrying humans toward the Moon.

Forced labour isn’t nuanced. You either condemn it or you condone it. Mark Carney was asked a direct question today to which the only acceptable and verifiable answer is "Yes." His refusal to say it - despite overwhelming evidence of human rights atrocities in China - is a disgrace.
Mackenzie Gray@Gray_Mackenzie

Asked if he believes there is forced labour in China, Mark Carney first went on about his housing announcement, then didn't answer the question. "There is existence of child labour and force labour around the world ... there are parts of China that are higher risk" #cdnpoli

Here is the full exchange between Liberal MP Michael Ma and Margaret McQuaig-Johnston at the industry committee where MP Ma sounds like he's running interference for the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing. The sound is out of sync from the original source in the House of Commons.

Judge for yourself. Shenzhen or Xinjiang? @MPMichaelMa said “you claim that there’s forced labour in…” and then attacked. So, was the witness @M_Johnston1’s testimony about Shenzhen? Let’s see 🤥🤥🤥
Luke de Pulford@lukedepulford

Sorry, what? “I didn’t mean to doubt forced labour in XINJIANG, I meant to doubt forced labour in SHENZHEN”? That’s genuinely your excuse? The most LUDICROUS and transparently false bit of political backtracking I’ve seen in a while.

Mark Carney must take responsibility for a change and denounce his MP’s appalling comments on forced labour. There was no confusion. Watch the witness say Ma told her after the committee meeting that he "doesn't believe in reports" about Chinese forced labour in Xinjiang.

The Prime Minister has a special responsibility for the conduct of international affairs. Yesterday, a Liberal MP intimated that there has been no Uyghur forced labour in the PRC. This week, the PMO gave an account that conflicted with the initial PCO response of March 13 to an order paper question about whether the Prime Minister did proactively raise the issue of human rights with his PRC counterparts during his most recent visit. Read in certain way, the second PCO response of March 23 does not necessarily conflict with its initial response of March 13. The PM needs to urgently clarify his position on these issues. Read my letter to the PM. #cdnpoli

At Industry Committee, I was proud to support my Conservative colleague @MikeGuglielmin's motion condemning forced labour in China. I also brought forward an amendment to condemn the unacceptable comments made by Liberal MP Michael Ma that downplayed these abuses. There is no grey area when it comes to forced labour and human rights violations committed by the Communist Beijing regime. Canadians expect their elected representatives to call it out, not cover for it.

🚨 Watch this video This is real footage of a Uyghur detention facility in Xinjiang, China. Filmed in 2020 by a brave dissident who risked his life to get this on camera. He had to flee China afterward and was granted asylum. Verified by NPR, BBC, The Guardian, Human Rights Watch, and the UN. Over 1 million Uyghurs detained. Forced labour. Mass surveillance. Documented by every credible human rights organization on earth. Liberal MP Michael Ma called testimony about this “hearsay” yesterday. He asked the expert if she’d personally witnessed it. As if China would let anyone near these camps. This is what he denies. Downplays. And defends. Who does Michael Ma work for?

This is an interesting account of Mr. Ma’s connections to the Chinese state’s United Front organisations.
Chung Ching Kwong 鄺頌晴@chungchingkwong

🧵Brief thread on Canadian MP Michael Ma’s connection with 🇨🇳 United Front Work (He’s the MP who recently questioned the veracity of the Uyghur persecutions) ‼️October 19, 2025: Ma attended the 15th-anniversary gala of the Canada Fujian Friendship Association. 🚩This gathering featured the Fujian/Fuzhou regional network, including leadership from the Toronto Fuqing Business Association—a group whose Markham commercial property was investigated by the RCMP and identified by Safeguard Defenders as an undeclared Chinese "police service station." The UFW frequently relies on these regional proxy networks to monitor the diaspora. [1] ❗️March 14, 2026: Ma and his wife, Anna Ma, personally visited the new headquarters of the Canada Shenzhen Associations Federation (CCSA) in Markham. 🚩Intelligence experts identify such "hometown" and regional business associations as key nodes in the United Front network, frequently used to co-opt diaspora leaders, promote Beijing’s political narratives, and facilitate state-backed economic and technological transfers. [2] ❗️March 4, 2026: Ma formally received a delegation from the CCSA, led by Chair Qi Jia, in his Parliament Hill office to discuss "systematically promoting China's image." 🚩This type of direct parliamentary access aligns with United Front "people-to-people" diplomacy, utilising diaspora trade groups to lobby host-country officials, build political capital, and influence mainstream narratives on behalf of Beijing. [3] ❗️September 19, 2025: Ma attended the 9th-anniversary charity gala of the CCSA alongside PRC Consul General Luo Weidong and CCSA Chair Qi Jia. 🚩The United Front frequently utilizes high-profile charity and community galas hosted by diaspora associations to build political capital with local officials, project mainstream legitimacy, and align overseas elites with Beijing's strategic objectives under the guise of philanthropy. [4] ❗️September 6, 2025: Ma’s office sent a representative to the Mid-Autumn Festival hosted by the Confederation of Chinese Alumni Associations (CCAA) in Markham. 🚩The CCAA is a massive umbrella organization. Security experts note that such "alumni" federations are frequently used as proxy groups by United Front networks to mobilize diaspora populations, build social capital with Canadian officials, and marginalize dissenting voices. [5] ❗️June 20, 2025: Ma attended the grand opening gala of the Canadian Entrepreneurs Alliance (LEAC) in Markham, alongside various business elites and local politicians. 🚩High-profile diaspora commercial networks and business galas are frequently targeted by the United Front to cultivate "elite capture," build political capital with Canadian officials, and project mainstream legitimacy under the guise of commercial networking. [6] ❗️June 7, 2025: Ma attended the 42nd-anniversary gala of the Scarborough York Region Chinese Business Association (SYRCBA), an event where Chinese Consulate official Liu Linlin delivered a speech directing the group to promote Beijing's bilateral trade goals. 🚩Diaspora chambers of commerce are frequently utilized by the United Front and PRC consulates to align overseas business elites with Beijing's economic objectives and mobilize political support. [7] ❗️May 3, 2025: Ma attended the grand opening of the Canada Network & Resource Centre (CNRC) and its private networking clubhouse. 🚩The United Front frequently leverages high-end diaspora "networking centers" and private business clubs to facilitate "elite capture," seamlessly blending commercial interests with political influence-building in host countries. It seems that Michael Ma designed his rapid fire questions at me so they could be used by Chinese state media showing that he went up against a critic of the regime. That’s what Chinese state media is reporting. It failed spectacularly here, but state media won’t report that.
Luke de Pulford@lukedepulford

🇨🇳 State media now praising 🇨🇦 MP Michael Ma’s attack on on @M_Johnston1 “Michael Ma launched a rapid-fire interrogation that sent tension through the room. The witness's stumbling response sparked uproar.” Increasingly damaging for @OurCommons 🔗 m.guancha.cn/internation/20…

🚨MA JUST MADE IT WORSE🚨 After grilling a witness over forced labour in China, Liberal MP Michael Ma’s office admitted the strategy was to sideline her… and give the floor to a pro-China EV witness. Then when pressed again? He refused to clearly say it’s happening in China. Even CBC is calling it out. Carney now owns this.

Floor-crossing Liberal MP Michael Ma just dismissed Uyghur forced labour testimony as “hearsay” in committee. He asked the expert if she PERSONALLY witnessed slave labour in Xinjiang. 😖 She said no Westerner can get into Xinjiang because China would never allow it. When CBC asked him afterward if he believes there is forced labour in China, he said “I believe there is forced labour around the world.” Refused to say China. Not once, BUT THREE TIMES. Canada’s own Parliament voted to call this a GENOCIDE. This is the MP who crossed the floor to the Liberals, was immediately flown to Beijing with Carney, and is a former director of an organization named as a CCP United Front group. Carney’s office admitted this week that human rights were NOT raised with Xi during that trip. Now one of his MPs is running defence for Beijing on slave labour in a Canadian committee room. Who does Michael Ma work for?!
