It’s nuts how in almost every car this is faster than just giving us a usb-c port that can adequately charge a laptop.
cars alternator makes AC snd converts to DC
The inverter then converts to AC for the outlet
The MacBook adaptor then turns it into DC so the computer and battery can handle it

@7BitShift @wesbos Yeah, no major technical blocker if you’ve got 10+ amps to spare on the alternator and can dump the heat safely. I know several cars ship with 60 watt USB-C PD (not sure if there’s anything higher than that out there). The real reason it’s not common is just cost, of course.

@wesbos TBH, the alternator’s AC is very different than 120 V 60 Hz mains, and I feel like that would be a pretty complex AC regulator.
But a DC-to-DC system could be meaningfully more efficient. You could probably get most of that benefit with just a cigarette lighter USB-C charger!
