When I was a kid, my life goal was to make money.
I caught frogs in my backyard and sold them to classmates during the Pokémon hype at age 8. It went viral at school, and every boy wanted one. I was busy catching frogs until the principal called my mom after receiving dozens of complaints from the girls. That was the first time I made a thousand.
I started my startup at 20, after my ex broke up with me, saying I was too poor. I grinded every single day trying to get money to impress her. I made some bucks, but my motivation shifted from just making money to longer-term goals: how to sustain a business, how to grow my team, and how to scale.
Around age 30, I decided to join crypto. After seeing my then-university friend raise several million dollars at a 200M valuation for a new DeFi protocol, I felt like that was my shot to get quick wins. But, like any early joiner, I lost a lot of money on this and that magic beans.
I then joined an enterprise, learned a lot, and had a great time with colleagues. It was the first time my mindset shifted from just making money to building meaningful products.
Trust Wallet is my latest platform. My mentor @cz_binance gives me full support and questions nothing I decide. It's the first time I could freely embrace both a business and technology mindset at a large scale and be accountable for the success and well-being of our hundred colleagues. No principal is stopping me from selling “frogs” or whatever viral thing because I'm the one leading the company’s direction.
At this point, I have nothing to lose. I can always rebuild anything, whether from the backyard or with just a computer and an internet connection. At the same time, I have many opportunities to succeed, with a user base of millions on @TrustWallet and established industry collaborations.
I believe that when we build products that sustainably create value for users, money will follow. More than that, my motivation has shifted toward creating an intense but rewarding work environment for colleagues since they are all the reasons a company can survive and thrive.
We come from diverse backgrounds—across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe—different religions and cultures. Some of us have crazier stories than mine, but we all share one mission: to build products that positively impact millions.
