These are worlds apart in processes, both in the contexts they create, but in associated health and environmental risks. All GE scientists know this. I prefer LabCorp over Quest because their upper limit is 10x higher. 7% of the people I’ve tested have exceeded the upper limit of LabCorp’s test (25,000.) No one is paying me to say this. There has been a lot of commentary since the FTA was released around the ludicrous immigration implications and the USD$20 billion investment commitment over the next 15 years from NZ into India. But what also needs to be highlighted is the fact that there is a clause in the agreement which acknowledges and affirms New Zealand’s obligations to UNDRIP - this is the UN Declaration of Indigenous Rights which spawned He Puapua. It also includes a specific clause about the Treaty which states “nothing in this agreement shall preclude the adoption by New Zealand of measures it deems necessary to accord more favourable treatment to Maori in respect of matters covered by this agreement”. This whole FTA is a clear compromise of principles and values for the obsession of ‘getting a deal done’. We are standing up for New Zealand’s future and our principles and not supporting an agreement that will sell our country out for a handful of beans.

It's bleak. I hate where New Zealand is heading. Tomorrow’s deal signing is a tragic moment for those of us who loved the country the way it was — and don’t want what’s about to be locked in, making a mess of our full potential. I’ve got no problem with hard-working migrants doing jobs that need doing. But how common is that, really? Why are we backing our own kids out? We have an amazing history of achievement. We don’t need to fill IT and engineering roles with overseas talent — and then the money almost all flows straight overseas anyway. That $30 billion in the deal? Some just say “LOL” — but then why’s it even in there? Add the remittances sent home, plus many who’ll eventually leave for Australia or back home. The mickey’s been well and truly taken. Pizza parlours, supermarkets, gas stations, the entry-level jobs I did growing up — they’ve been taken over. Nothing wrong with any of those jobs, and there’s no reason our own kids shouldn’t be doing them again. Just try getting an I.T. or engineering job in Auckland as a Kiwi these days. It’s an absolute nightmare. So is the entry-level system for our youth!! Sure, there are spreadsheets, tweaks and balances that may bluff a different story. But the evidence is plain for anyone whose head isn’t buried deep in the sand. Are we really happy to destroy the New Zealand so many of us love, just for some quick wins that are arguable even as wins? The money will flow overseas — or in 15 years these companies will lose their industries here anyway. What the hell are we doing, New Zealand? This is not good. While there’s any chance left for our country, I’m staying and I’m fighting — for my son, for my family, and for the future we deserve.
