@Gnosisinformant Wrong, and such an event never happened. The same is true for the exodus, we would expect some kind of evidence of a mass migration from Egypt to Israel, but we find none. The absence of evidence in this case would be evidence of absence.
English

@Gnosisinformant Also absent of evidence is evidence of absent when evidence it expects. For example, if we have ancient author tells that mt. vesuvius erupted but yet find no physical evidence of any eruption ever happening, this would be sufficient to conclude that the ancient authors were..
English

He’s wrong about Mt. Vesuvius.
Besides Pliny the Younger (61-113CE) who was 18 when it happened, his uncle Pliny the Elder was at the event leading the Misenum Fleet (Roman Navy) rescue fleet and died there.
Martial (41-104CE) (Epigrams 4.44) shortly after the event, mourning the loss of the lush vineyards and "green shades" of Vesuvius, which were now "submerged in ash and mournful fire."
Suetonius (69-122CE) (Lives of the Twelve Caesars) describes the Emperor Titus’s reaction to the disaster. Titus visited the region, organized a relief fund from the estates of those who died without heirs, and provided financial aid to survivors.
Tacitus (55-120CE) Titus Book X (fragment from histories 1.2)
"Italy was distressed by disasters unknown before or returning after the lapse of ages. Cities on the rich fertile shores of Campania were swallowed up or overwhelmed..."
Also an argument from silence is only fallacious when the argument is not sufficiently explained by the data.
For example, to argue Jesus didn’t exist at all because no contemporary sources write about him would be fallacious because not every person from every era is mentioned by contemporary writers.
However, extraordinary claims like miracles and zombies coming out of the ground and 5,000 witnesses are seeing this stuff should be reflected in contemporary sources or it’s doubtful that it happened.
@InspiringPhilos, nothing but respect but just wanted to challenge this clip here.

I was trying to get that evidence for Jesus, but apparently these Christians don’t have it.

@a_meadowsweet @adancingferret @Graham__Hancock @FlintDibble I know right !Graham Hancock is such a lair. I don’t blame flint for not wanting to debate him again.
English

Attn @FlintDibble : (1) you have been boasting and preening for nearly two years that you "won" your debate on the JRE with me and that your self-proclaimed brilliant performance "tanked" my audience. Usually, it is the loser of a debate, not the winner, who asks for a second round. I must therefore assume that your petulant demands to go "face to face" with me again mean you’ve known all along that you failed yourself and embarrassed your profession very badly when you sat down with me for JRE 2136 and that everything you've said on the matter since then is simply the smelly gas of a deeply insecure man. (2) In your pinned post of March 10th 2026 you accuse me of cowardice and lack of integrity and claim that I "rejected two different offers to go face to face” with you "on major, international media outlets". From whence came the “two different offers” for me to go face to face with you in a second debate? When and where were these “offers” made? And in what way, where, did I reject these offers? (3) For the avoidance of future doubt let me be clear. I am content for JRE 2136, the debate that you claim you won, to stand as the permanent record of what passed between us and to continue to allow those who are still interested to make up their own minds on the matter. I see no point in sitting down with you again to accommodate your neediness.

English

@maklelan Of all people to talk about intellectual dishonesty, maybe you should sit this one out queen.

That moment when you repost facepalms but there is no way you had time to watch any of the video before posting your negative reaction. True intellectual greatness right there.

@theRTMullins “We have lots of copies from the Middle Ages. Bart Ehrman is not an expert.” 🙄
English

@MatthewHartke I guess he’s never heard of the passing of peregrinus by Lucian .
Lucian shows how myths and legends about peregrinus can take just days for form and become wide spread.
So the whole argument that it takes centuries for myths to form is demonstrating false.
English

“Myths take centuries to develop” is one of the dumbest thought-terminating cliches of modern evangelical apologetics. It’s also a myth that somebody said one day and a bunch of other people thought it sounded good so they just started repeating it.

@Katapetasma2 I see absolutely nothing in his gospel about selling everything, remaining celibate, and waiting for Jesus to save us from the Roman Empire and the demons. So I assume he’s preaching his own false gospel.
English

I like how he really studied the Biblical texts and their context but still comes to the most trite Reformed conclusions possible.

I am so encouraged by the way God is using my brother in Christ, Wes Huff, to proclaim the gospel to literally millions of people on a weekly basis. May Jesus Christ continue to be proclaimed and known.

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok “Shoe sales, cellphones, shark attacks. None of it proves any of them cause climate change.” You are comparing apples to oranges. There is no plausible mechanism which those increase global temperatures. Where as CO2 does have a well known mechanism that increases temperature.
English

@94_415 @thebadstats @grok They're shit graphs that prove nothing. You can plot temperature rize with anything that rises. Shoe sales, cellphones, shark attacks. None of it proves any of them cause climate change. Including CO2.
It's just x and y axis plot manipulation. A cheap parlour trick.
English

Love this clip from today. Triggernometry has a climate change denialist Ian Plimer on to set him up with softballs. Their "pushback" questions are always "why do those lying climate change scientists disagree with you?" Then after he lays out a series of false, debunked, and misleading claims, they follow it up with a "how could anyone disagree with the obvious truths you are spouting?"
bad_stats 🕜💵🖨️🕣@thebadstats
The Triggernometry boys give tough interviews. I think the most common question asked on Triggernometry (usually following an insane rant by a crank) is "isn't it a sign that the world has gone crazy that anybody disagrees with you about that?"
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok Today’s situation is different because humans are increasing CO₂ first, which then drives warming as the graph I showed you demonstrated
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok I have already disprove all of this. The lag doesn’t disprove CO₂ warming. It shows the initial trigger was orbital changes, while rising CO₂ acted as a feedback that strengthened the warming.
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok What evidence do you have that all of the graphs have been manipulated? Exactly none!
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok This is not even an argument and has completely ignore every I just showed you.
English

@94_415 @thebadstats @grok Yeah. Know what 100 X 0 is? 0.
0 is about how much CO2 is in the atmosphere. And 0 is the effect.
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok Honest this getting ridiculous and I’m starting to suspect that you don’t really believe your own arguments either and are just trolling.
English

@ClimateRetorts @thebadstats @grok Cellphones didn’t exist in the 1800s or for most of the 1900s either. Cellphones don’t trap infrared radiation. CO₂ does, and that’s been measured experimentally for over a century.
English
