Trump just flipped the Strait narrative from open it to block it, turning it into an Iran versus the rest of world pressure test while oil flows still hold around 80% of normal.
But the real constraint is structural: Iran cannot push Hormuz too far without hitting China’s red lines, since Beijing is the dominant buyer and can either enforce discipline or accelerate bypass routes like pipelines and overland corridors. That creates leverage, but it is asymmetric. If Iran overuses it, it loses it.
Clever move by Trump, in my opinion!

Moving the US military out of west European bases will be costly, slow and complicated. These bases are large and sophisticated. Wherever we move to has to be equally sophisticated and secure.
A good place to start is moving from Spain to Morocco, where the US used to have a SAC base. Morocco has several modern facilities, including our former bases.
Morocco is already a designated non-NATO major ally (so is Bahrain), is a member of the Abraham Accords, and is pro-western. They’re also a tolerant and beautiful country.
The US has options. If Spain, France and Italy won’t help us, we can find better places to go.

Europe can’t afford an army. Its people are aging. The working force works part time. The state welfare is very generous. Governments are already in debt and no European wants to fight because there’s no notion of the homeland and patriotism.
