@bankertobuilder Mattress retail locations _have_ to be for money laundering there's just no other explanation for how many of them there are.

@Jonathan_Blow @chamath > The people who own Medicare policy can now read how their systems behave and change as they see fit. I await the hellscape of medicare somehow getting worse.

Here is the first case study of what 8090 can do. Working with CMS, our Enterprise team decoded a 50yr, 18M repo of COBOL and Assembly that governs billions in healthcare payments. We documented 100,000+ business rules in plain English using Software Factory, each traced to its exact source line. The people who own Medicare policy can now read how their systems behave and change as they see fit. Full story in the thread below. We can do this for any large enterprise who have big, legacy codebases.

The United States Medicare claims system: 18 million lines of Assembly and COBOL, 50 years of policy logic. Working with CMS, our Enterprise team read the code and documented 100,000+ business rules in plain English using Software Factory, each traced to its exact source line. The people who own Medicare policy can now read how their systems behave. Full story in the thread.

@rfleury There's non linearity in progress towards quality that ship-fast philosophy never captures. Ship-fast _think_ they can get to the cathedral but realistically never will because there's a cliff somewhere in there. This is all speculation but yep good picture.

Imagine telling Seb Aaltonen "you're no senior". Bud at least know the people in the industry that you're replying to.

My hot take on Plex pricing is that this is the way it should be. I bought a lifetime pass a couple years ago and I thought it was underpriced. If there was a lifetime pass with access to source I would pay for that too.

Actually Sam, we had something like that, except it specifically required you to pay the people whose economic viability you would be jeopardizing. We called it "IP law", and you decided you would rather ignore it and try to fight paying for it in a large number of lawsuits.

@wookash_podcast IMO a code review under these circumstances is practically useless. Video demo would be a minimum requirement, probably need follow up discussion.

To people who are *good* at reviewing code (or claim to be hehe) - how is that possible? To what extend you can properly review the code with low familiarity with the codebase? Eg. New project, you jump in, Claude Code PR - 500 lines changed - review now What's the strategy?

@nicbarkeragain in principle I like left-hand side to easily catch errors of typing "=" instead of "==" but in practice I almost always go with right-hand because it is what the broader code base I'm in uses.

Programmers: do you have a consistent preference for which side you put the literal on in a comparison? // Right-hand side if (someValue == 1) {} // Left-hand side if (1 == someValue) {}
