@MattPolProf You said that the Nordic model, which is capitalist, is a variant of socialism. It amounts to claiming that socialism is compatible with capitalism. Only after connecting socialism to capitalism does it make sense to link socialism to liberalism. I feel sorry for your students

@basedassad69 @SoToSpeakCaucus @LJPeters15 @liquid2ulu Yes, Our World has the best data from what I remember. They aggregate multiple different tests. A lot of the general trends are the same of course, but it’s much more reliable and much more useful for actual development analysis and whatnot.

Their plan also did not center completely around knowingly breaking the electoral count act. 😊

Neither of which applied to Trump’s FRAUDULENT plot. You’ve been lied to, and seemingly didn’t actually look into the 1960 Hawaii situation yourself. 😊

@basedassad69 @SoToSpeakCaucus @LJPeters15 @liquid2ulu Roughly recalling from years ago but: used some samples of children, malnourished people, incredibly small samples to just apply to a population, when he didn’t have data he’d sometimes just use another ethnically or geographically similar country. There’s more but that works.

@RyanGeddie Agree. Could much of the problem here just be that people simply don’t fully understand their own foundations? Enough to apply them to each position anyways? Even within our democratic tent, it feels like a lot of people just default to their perceived group or visceral reactions

Lots of people complain about the democratic base holding some combination of electorally sub-optimal positions, not a lot of people try to convince the base to hold different positions by appealing to their underlying framework or beliefs.

Do souls exist? @Michael__Huemer argues yes. Consciousness is clearly non-physical and if anything could account for the non-physical, it's the soul. It's also the best account of personal identity. But what about Buddhist/Parfitian accounts of personal identity?

@ETCviperidae @liquid2ulu I think this is true. At least from what I’ve read, the USAID performance studies are quite flawed and that’s the original topic, so fair enough. Effective voluntary charities have been much more helpful, perhaps the government should just consult their people at some point.

@A1exL_ @liquid2ulu We could have prevented deaths, saved money and enabled these countries to be actual countries but instead we just siphoned our own resources, sent them there to be squandered today and produce almost nothing of substance to ensure their tomorrow for 35 years.

@ETCviperidae @liquid2ulu Yeah, fair enough. I think there’s at least some intuitive reasoning behind trying to prevent easily preventable deaths abroad whether it’s vaccines or whatever. It’s cheap to us, and presumably an economy will do better if their workforce isn’t dying by easily preventable causes

@A1exL_ @liquid2ulu Well yeah, a loan that you have to pay back would be a good incentive to get rich enough to pay it back. That makes sense, USAID has been going for almost as long and clearly it hasn't produced that level of self sufficiency since everyone will starve without it apparently.

@ETCviperidae @liquid2ulu The IDA has pulled like 36 countries from aid dependency since 1960, and something like half of them now donate to the IDA themselves. I read this report some time ago so I’m probably slightly off, but it does seem that these things work.
