I am quite surprised that although Dhruv has covered my stories, which is great and I’m thankful to him for that, he wouldn’t care to name the journalists whose stories he relies upon. Please see @ravish_journo sir how he generously credits reporters whose stories he graciously covers. Frankly, a little disappointed. Hope he rectifies this because it’s not fair to even other reporters who put in so much effort to bring those stories out, often months together.

Along the coast of Tamil Nadu, in the waters of Ramanathapuram, particularly around Pamban, Keelakarai and Ervadi over 300 traditionally skilled fisherwomen dive into the sea everyday to earn for their families. Setting out in groups of eight to ten by boat before sunrise, they skin-dive up to depths of 4–5 metres, hand-picking seaweed from the seabed and gathering it in mesh bags known locally as kacha. By the time they return to shore around 1 p.m., each woman brings back 10–12 bags of seaweed, with each bag weighing 20–25 kilograms. Their labour sustains their families supporting children’s education, and household needs. Government of Tamil Nadu, under the TN-SHORE Project, is designing a Village Enterprise Model working with them to strengthen their enterprise, build value chains and empower them economically. In 2023, high on the icy walls of Peru’s Cordillera Blanca, a routine climb turned into a terrifying accident. Near the top of the steepest section, an old sling failed - In seconds, one climber fell and dragged another one with him, sending both tumbling violently down the face. Their fall was partially slowed only when the rope tangled with other climbers and equipment far below. Witnesses at the base watched helplessly as the pair disappeared down the wall. A complex rescue followed. Climbers on the face rappelled to assist, while others raced down rough gravel roads for over an hour searching for mobile reception before reaching park rangers. It took nearly four hours to get the injured climbers back to the car, followed by another three-hour drive to the hospital in Huaraz. ❄️ Both climbers survived, but not unscathed. One climber suffered a broken arm and endured severe pain throughout the evacuation. The Peruvian guide reportedly broke a finger. A sobering reminder: in the high mountains, equipment failure can be just as deadly as a single mistake — and rescue is never quick, simple, or guaranteed. Video ©: Lukas Nbm
