@PJStarlissimo @_PeteSmith_ They literally had Reader in 2023, the year they had a massive fall off from 2022, and he started almost every game. They lost Bell and Bates that offseason. They went from 5th to 21st in scoring defense and had a similar drop in total defense. They lost Reader the following year

@AC38529843 @_PeteSmith_ Citing CIN is a massive self-own. They didn't fall off because of safeties; they collapsed because their DL was bottom-tier and they led the league in missed tackles. The real disaster was losing DJ Reader—the anchor. Citing Bates is a casual’s excuse for ignoring the trenches.

Bengals have not been the same since losing DJ Reader. Now they have a better version.

@PJStarlissimo @_PeteSmith_ You are just flat out wrong. Watch the 2022 Bengals defense film then watch the 2023 film without Bates (and Vonn Bell). It was a catastrophic loss. Anyone with the tiniest sense of NFL knowledge knows this.

@AC38529843 @_PeteSmith_ Comparing safeties from a completely different era is pure lunacy. The NFL those guys played in is dead. Bringing up Ed Reed, Dawkins etc ignores how rule changes and offensive schemes have neutered the position today. You have zero case.

@PJStarlissimo @_PeteSmith_ For sure. Guys like Antoine Winfield Jr and Kyle Hamilton, or guys from the past 15 years like Troy Polamalu, Earl Thomas, Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins haven’t impacted winning at all. It’s non-EDGE rushing DTs that do.

@_CLEology Fans won’t want to hear it but rushing Espino or Walters off their surgeries instead of building them up slowly would be a mistake, even if it leads to more shitty bullpen losses in the short term.

It’s pretty clear the #Guardians post-June 1 will be a lot better than the guardians team we’re watching here in April and likely through May. And that’s OK

@BeLikeMike_06 That makes no sense. So the Guardians won both the Yandy Diaz and the Junior Caminero trades because the Guardians have been better than the Rays?

@redraiderman1 “Didn’t sniff” Tate, Sonny and Arvell: 2023: lost to the champs on the final drive, played them closer than anyone else 2024: Were the champs by an average margin of 17.5 points per playoff game 2025: lost to the champs on the final drive, played them closer than anyone else

@bernie_ple28263 Kurtz may have a better career than Bazzana. But taking a 1-tool 1B power hitter over a 5-tool middle infielder *who hit 6 more HRs than the 1-tool power hitter* would have been difficult to justify. Bazzana has been crushed by unforeseeable power zapping oblique injuries

Yes. My first three were Kurtz, Condon, Caglione, Bazzana. I felt the team needed power-and a quality first basemen. I would have taken one of the three I graded before Bazzana. Bazzana is a nice middle-infielder. Not a star.

@bernie_ple28263 in your opinion did the Guardians get the 1st pick wrong with Bazanna

@SportsBoyTony Insane 23 year gap. Joba vs Fausto midges game ‘07 ALDS? Giambi walk-off in ‘13 WC chase? ‘16 Merritt “shaking in his boots” ALCS clincher? Bebo 2 HRs ‘16 WS? Lindor GS comeback ‘17 ALDS? 14 game win streak in ‘16? 22 game win streak in ‘17? ‘07 Kenny returns? ‘11 Thome returns?

Very incomplete list of big moments for me during my baseball fandom. Not sure where a Parker Messick no-hitter would have ranked. I could argue Kluber's 18 K game was more impressive

@BelowAverageOPS @cdlenthusiast He’s recovering from an oblique injury that is the worst injury for power hitting. Meanwhile he’s a 5 tool player who hit 6 more home runs his final year in college than Nick Kurtz. If his power hitting doesn’t fully recover he’s excellent at 4 other tools

We gotta stop doing this. You’re just setting Bazzana up. Nothing to the pull-side, one hard hit ball. This is all about process, not results. Until you all realize this is not the caliber of prospect this org drafted anymore, there’s not much else to say.
