Today is Kate’s birthday. The second b’day since her passing. The second b’day she won’t get to spend with her incredible circle of friends & her family. Meanwhile, #ChristianPorter still hasn’t been investigated or held accountable for ANYTHING. WHY? #Auspol #TheDrum

If there's anything to be learned from the tragic murder of Jesse Baird & Luke Davies it is once again this: no-one - & I mean NO-ONE - ever owns another person. Consent is EVERYTHING. When exactly are we, as a society, going to get the memo & do something meaningful about it?

❤️SHE MATTERS: ALANA MARTIN!❤️ This morning a man on social media said to me "but what did she do to him?" after I posted about the killing of another woman in Australia. Alana Martin was the woman he was speaking about. Alana was killed in her home at Owanyilla on Queensland's Fraser Coast on Sunday. Her former partner is charged with her murder. Alana is the fifth Australian woman killed this year. These are all the things Alana did to deserve being murder. N.O.T.H.I.N.G. Last week Alana celebrated two major life milestones - the entry into high school of her eldest boy and the start of kindy for her youngest. This post is the second one I've penned in mere hours - Keira Marshall was also killed on Sunday. Both women were mums, both were loved and adored by their families and their communities. Both were allegedly lost to acts of male violence, perpetrated by those who knew them. Indeed, all of the women killed this year were lost to violence allegedly perpetrated by males who knew them. Their deaths follow an appalling femicide toll in 2023, when I counted more than 74 women killed. At least 10 children were also lost to violence last year. Meanwhile, we hear nothing about women killed from our leaders and we see very little discussion around their deaths on social media. And, when we do see community discussion, too often the refrain "what did she do to deserve it" emerges. I need to make absolutely clear the conversation I had with @9NewsPerth reporter @GenoveseMichael today is being reported totally incorrectly. Before today's press conference Michael and I were talking about how presenting the news when a big sporting event is on at the same time means a small audience will watch the news. I then say to Michael words to the effect "are you reading the news tonight?" He says yes and I say "the tennis is on tonight isn't it?" He then says "the women's final" And I then say referring to reading the news against that broadcast "it's like the reserves then". Reading the news against the tennis was what I was referring to as "being the reserves". Not the tennis. I can not make that any clearer or be any more emphatic. It is totally disingenuous and flat out wrong to suggest otherwise and I will not be accused of having said something I did not say. I am certain Michael will verify this.
