The Starship V3 heat shield held well
Chris Hadfield@Cmdr_Hadfield

We need heat shields to protect us, since we use the air to slow us down as we return to Earth. From orbital speed, it gets to 1650°C / 3000°F. From the Moon: 2750°C / 5000°F. For yesterday's Starship suborbital test flight, peak was 1450°C / 2600°F. Great to see the @SpaceX progress over the last 3 flights. Making them truly reusable is complex and necessary for permanent, cheap space access. image compilation: @niccruzpatane

Lieutenant Colonel Thomas DiTomasso served in the Army for 20 years, in both the Ranger Regiment and Delta Force. He has been deployed at least 9 times to Iraq, 6 times to Bosnia, 4 times to Afghanistan, and 2 times to Africa. Before joining Delta Force in 1998, he was a member of Task Force Ranger in Mogadishu, Somalia during Operation Gothic Serpent in 1993. His actions on October 3-4, 1993 earned him the Silver Star and a Purple Heart and have been portrayed in the 2001 movie Black Hawk Down, albeit via a composite character played by Josh Hartnett whose actions in the film were actually done by Lt. DiTomasso, 1st Lt. Perino and Staff Sgt. Eversmann. The DOD asked the producers of Black Hawk Down not to feature DiTomasso prominently in the film because by the time the film was being shot, DiTomasso was no longer with the Ranger Regiment. He had joined the notoriously secretive 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta or simply, The Unit or Delta Force. In The Unit, he served as Troop Commander, Operations Officer, Squadron Commander and later, Deputy Commander. He is said to have commanded a Joint Special Operations Task Force in Iraq, responsible for more than 1200 special operations forces and government agency personnel. It has been reported that he never having lost anyone in combat directly under his command while he was B Squadron Commander. He is a recipient of 2 Legions of Merit, the only award that could be worn around the neck other than the Medal of Honor. Selected for promotion to Colonel, he eventually opted to retire after 20 years in service and founded a company that provides leadership and tactical operations training to military, law enforcement and corporate clients.

If Leinster win tonight, Leo Cullen is a genius. If they lose, it’ll be Nienaber’s fault again, and everyone will call for him to be sacked, again! We know the story already! #LEIvUBB

Private Joseph ZULU (service no. N12401) of the Native Military Corps, attached to the 2nd South African Police Battalion. Aka Piet Zulu. Murdered on 21 June 1942 by a German guard whilst a POW. According to Sergeant Johan FOLSCHER, for whom Joseph acted as messenger, during the forced march the men were very thirsty but the Germans forced them to walk faster. Joseph reached his limit and when a guard cursed at them, he lunged at the guard. The guard shot him three times. The guard then aimed at Folscher, forcing him back in line. Joseph is commemorated at the Tonruk War Cemetery, grave H12. After the war, Johan recorded his war memories on tape, and in the 1980s, his friend Johan HUISAMEN transcribed the tapes and published them - Vlug na Vryheid, by J Huisamen and J Folsher, Perskor, 1987. Joseph's murder is recorded in the book. Johann Christiaan Emanuel Petrus FOLSCHER born 1923, died in 1993 in Vanderbijlpark. © 2026 South African Researcher – Family History & Heritage

I am deeply grateful for the trust President Trump placed in me and for the opportunity to lead @ODNIgov for the last year and a half. Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.

Regarding the OpenAI case, the judge & jury never actually ruled on the merits of the case, just on a calendar technicality. There is no question to anyone following the case in detail that Altman & Brockman did in fact enrich themselves by stealing a charity. The only question is WHEN they did it! I will be filing an appeal with the Ninth Circuit, because creating a precedent to loot charities is incredibly destructive to charitable giving in America. OpenAI was founded to benefit all of humanity.
