Fairgrounds (a public racket club) is a smart business idea born of the moment we find ourselves in as a city. Sites cleared for development but not yet ready to go are reimagined as interim uses that deliver community amenity. I bike past this one on my way home from work, and from spring through fall it’s consistently packed. This is exactly the kind of space we should be encouraging. Underutilized land, especially in dense, transit-connected areas like this site on Yonge, can be activated quickly with minimal investment. We should be leaning into this with smart taxation and policy incentives that make this easier, not harder, to do. We need more of this kind of land use innovation across the city, not less. I hope the folks at MPAC get that!

Line 5 Eglinton ripping past rush hour traffic in North York. Dedicated transit lanes, whether it is on an LRT, bus, or streetcar provide travel time consistency that makes people want to take transit. #Toronto
