Great clear, practical talk from @EdinburghKnee on periprosthetic fractures about taper slip stems at the #exeterhip 50 year symposium

I have finally accepted that I’m never going to find my stethoscope that I foolishly lent to the trauma SHO at a trauma call last month. I have ordered a new one. My third. I lost my first in exactly the same way, at a trauma call. That doctor emigrated to Germany the next week.

Great to see ⁦@edwards_tomc@msklab1 presenting his important work on surgical training at #aaos2023 Las Vegas. So important to consider the whole team when promoting patient safety in the operating theatre

@xlgriffin @tim_n_board Well, put another way, her median life expectancy at 75 is 13 years and she’s already symptomatic. Clearly a discussion to be had with the patient and don’t know comorbs or activity level but on balance that would be where I’d sit. Certain though? Of course not!

@ADLiddle @tim_n_board Are you sure guys? Totally agree earlier revision is easier but only worthwhile for her if she does eventually elect for revision. her age/sex matched annual mortality is about 5% (ONS data). Does her annual revision risk exceed that?

@tim_n_board What an amazing result. Minority view but I’d revise now though - she’s symptomatic enough to come back; she’ll need a revision in her lifetime. Why wait till she’s older and has more osteolysis?

@OrthoSingh @bota_uk @orthooliveruk Great pitch from @OrthoSingh - showing his characteristic clear thinking and understanding of what’s important in the role. A top trainee genuinely motivated to make things better for trainees overall. Highly support!

After years of only discussing it in @BoneJointJ editorial meetings, I’m loving the resurgence of interest in the Oxford comma. For the avoidance of doubt, I’m pro.
