When @elonmusk started @SpaceX, he didn't ask for a contract. He rewrote the terms.
@EricJorgenson explains why:
"Elon went to the people actually awarding these contracts and said 'We want an outcome-based contract. I want to be incentivized to drive down the cost. I want to be incentivized to hit the deadlines.'
For all the talk that happens about him doing things that have never been done before, the things that he's doing that have never been done before are because he drives cost down.
And he drives cost down because the vision is not 'Make as much money as I can.' It wasn't 'Start a new aerospace company that's as profitable as possible.' It was 'Get us to Mars.'
That is a heroic thing to go in and say 'I know I could get paid X to do mediocre work, but I actually want to take the risk. I want to burn the boats. I want my back to the wall. I want to know that we have to clear this threshold that nobody has ever crossed before. And I want to go tell my team that because that's how we're actually going to achieve this objective that everybody thinks I'm crazy for setting.'"

On behalf of everyone that's ever used the X search feature - whether to find other users or information - this is arguably the weakest part of X that needs to be addressed. It's an incredible historical collection of data and a platform built on connecting with others but accessing that data and/or any other user profile via search is a truly terrible experience right now

Given that several companies make advanced chips, but no companies have ever made fully reusable rockets or achieved SpaceX scale, I think Starship is harder, but we shall see.
Terafab will technically be two fabs, each making only one chip design. This greatly simplifies process flow and allows more linear, adjacent movement of the FOUP.
A super high production rate allows us to test very quickly what steps can be deleted, simplified or sped up, even after the design is fixed. Current fabs are extremely conservative, operating on rigid historical heuristics, which are mostly, but not all, correct.
Anything that is a rate limiter at the machine level means that machine will be redesigned, unless already at limit of physics.
Having new iterations of a chip design be produced every day in the research fab (with <7 day lag) means being able to try out many high risk, high return ideas.

In any event, there is no other way to reach extreme scale, so either we make Terafab or we will be stuck at the ~20% chip/memory output growth per year of the current industry.

there are 2 paths:
1.Jupiter updates its interface so my route can plug in natively
2.we keep building our own routing and execution layer until we effectively have a PIGEON-native Jupiter-style interface
That second path is what’s happening now.
The engine works.
Jupiter is the bottleneck.
If they don’t open the door, we build our own door. It is probably not pure monopoly behavior, but it is definitely a gatekeeping effect created by a closed execution interface. Just my opinion.
