My mom Jan died today. She was a dedicated children's librarian who impacted countless kids. She was not particularly successful professionally and most of her work went unnoticed. But it still mattered. And I just want to put that out into the universe.

@NataliaHodgins Went with a friend for a post-mastectomy consult with a plastic surgeon. After hearing all the options, she said she might forego breast reconstruction. He said, "You wouldn't forego it if you were my wife!

Tell me about the most sexist thing a medical professional has ever said to you. When I first got sick with ME/CFS, a physician asked if I kept coming back to his office because I was lonely and seeking male company. I was 31 and gorgeous. He was in his 50s and… not.

@NataliaHodgins Another doc told me to "pray on it," when I very politely indicated I might want a 2nd opinion before scheduling major surgery.

@MaureenLangloss I'm so sorry. There's a lot of it in my family and there were some really hard years before the ones most affected got the treatment that worked for them. My heart goes out to you.

I didn’t really understand what OCD was until my kid developed it. Now I see how debilitating, all-consuming, & truly horrible it can be. I’m sorry for anyone who is struggling through it. I have never met a bigger parenting challenge. It’s heartbreaking & I am so unprepared.
