Just heard UK trade minister trying to defend trade deal with NZ, stating that this will allow UK citizens to eat NZ lamb in the autumn when UK lamb is out of season. She either misspoke or simply does not know. UK lamb supply peaks from July - December and is available all year.

Much talk just now about the fledgling carbon credit market. Real risks for farmers and crofters. Wise to act with caution until there is greater clarity over issues such as ownership of these credits and the need to retain them to offset emissions from their own business.

We have been carbon accounting on the farm, our grassland is sequestering just under twice the carbon our woodland is per ha, 8.03t/ha in grassland, 4.6t/ha in woodland. Woodland is a great resource, but let's see it as part of a mosaic landscape, not some environmental panacea.
