Continuing efforts to promote IHL among weapon bearers in #Somalia. Just completed sessions with 200 Somalia National Armed Forces in Marka & Shalambood. Reinforcing key principles of the law (distinction, proportionality & precaution) to better protect civilians #IHL @ICRC.

I visited this week #Kismayo General Hospital, which the @ICRC has been supporting since 2013. 7'103 emergeny cases/admission in 2025, including 260 war wounded (and already 174 the first 3 months of 2026). An essential trauma centre and "the" referral hospital for #Jubaland.

@ICRC completed a four-day training on emergency trauma care this week in #Mogadishu, bringing together 24 medical staff from 11 hospitals across #Somalia. They are now better prepared to care for the wounded and respond to mass casualties. In partnership with Madina Hospital.

@ICRC In just 3 months, 738 children under 5 admitted here; more than double the same period last year... Heartbreaking to see those fragile newborns struggling with their first steps into life. But heartwarming to witness the dedication of the nurses to put them back on their feet...

Today at the #Kismayo Paediatric Stabilisation Centre, supported by @ICRC. Seeing more mothers arriving with severely malnurished and sick children, due to the drought and reduction of humanitarian funding affecting #Somalia.

In #Kismayo this week. Happy to see some rains at last! Hoping they will continue and that the Gu season will be good, although we know the effects of the drought will continue to be felt for a few more months and will continue to require humanitarian/@ICRC attention.

Dengue cases are rising in Somaliland as drought and climate shocks worsen conditions. With vital support from @IFRC_DREF, SRCS (#BishaCas) volunteers are delivering door‑to‑door awareness and community clean‑ups, already reaching 240 households in Hargeisa, Berbera & Burco.

@ICRC @ICRC_Africa Despite the huge needs, resources are stretched thin. There are just 3 physical rehab centres across Somalia, run by 56 Somali Red Crescent staff and supported by the ICRC. They serve 200–250k people living with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities.
