My organization, @MedGlobalOrg, in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago, has established the first of its kind Center for the Treatment and Support of Victims of Torture in the city of Homs, using state of the art behavioral treatment. So far, we have treated about 450 patients and completed 2500 treatment sessions. But the need is high as there are tens of thousands of victims of torture in Syria. In order to increase our capacity and open new centers, we need more funding.

#Syria: appointed, just took office, abducted and resigned with apology - all within a week. Prof. Ballan submitted his resignation as Director of Education after being abducted by a commander from Hijri's National Guard in #Suwayda-city. In his message, he says he wants to avoid internal strife & apologizes in accordance with Hijri's decision, leaving little doubt about who was behind the move.

#Syria: Kurdish residents have begun applying for the Syrian citizenship on first day of the opening of dedicated centers. Photos from Qamishli, one of the 5 centers established in #Hasakah province. Centers also opened in 4 other provinces. The application process will last one month.

Talks with the President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa @AH_AlSharaa. We agreed to work together to bring greater security and more opportunities for development to our societies. We discussed the situation in the region and the prospects for changing it for the better. We also went over the circumstances of Russia’s war against Ukraine – I am grateful for the support. There is strong interest in exchanging military and security experience. I appreciate the words of respect for our people. We also touched on Ukraine’s role as a reliable supplier of food products and discussed joint opportunities to strengthen food security across the region. We understand very well the energy and infrastructure challenges Syria is currently facing. We are ready to work together to expand opportunities for both our countries and their people.

Today in Damascus. We continue our active Ukrainian diplomacy aimed at real security and economic cooperation. Important meetings lie ahead – several substantive formats have been prepared. Every nation and every region deserves a peaceful life.

#Iraq has begun sending 1.5 million barrels of oil per month to #Syria's Baniyas refinery for export to #Europe via the Mediterranean. #Saudi is investing $ billions in a transnational fiber optic network as an alternative to the current Hormuz-Red Sea corridor. + a lot more.

A positive. And a first: today we launched our Humanitarian Plan in Damascus with Government of Syria. We aim to reach 8.6M people in 2026 with principled, lifesaving help. Please back partnership and ambition, and hold us to account for delivering.

#Syria: the first 178 oil tankers, carrying Iraqi oil, arrived in Baniyas. Unloading is currently underway, as the cargo is being prepared for transfer onto ships that will then sail to their final destination. This is the alternative route used to bypass the Strait of Hormuz's closure, which was activated yesterday with the reopening of the Walid border crossing with Iraq.

#Syria: the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has highlighted Syria's strategic position as a regional energy corridor. A total of 299 tankers carrying Iraqi oil were sent to Baniyas as first shipment, where the cargo will be loaded onto ships for export to its final destination. The Walid border crossing with Iraq was reopened yesterday as an emergency measure to bypass the Hormuz closure - enabling Iraq to continue oil exports while allowing Syria to generate additional revenue with transit fees.

At the Lebanon/Syria border. Over 200,000 people have crossed into Syria in a month. Humanitarian teams on the ground are constantly responding, constantly adapting.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said at the Syrian-German Business Forum in Berlin: Amid the current regional instability, there are very significant risks to supply chains and energy flows between East and West, with Europe likely to be affected by disruptions. Syria can serve as a safe hub for securing supply chains and energy routes through its strategic location and Mediterranean access, offering a faster and more secure link to Europe. In the event of disruptions in the Red Sea or the Strait of Hormuz, Syria can provide a safer alternative route.

Internal security forces were deployed in Maaloula, in the Damascus countryside, to secure churches during Palm Sunday services for Christian communities following the Western calendar.

It’s still hard to believe I’m actually walking through Damascus’s Al-Rabwah on such a sunny spring day. The abundance of water and lush greenery is a sight I haven't seen in my life in Damascus since the 2000’s drought hit Syria.

I understood barring Muslims from the Holy Land during their month of fasting, penance, and celebration after. But denying my religion use of the same holy land? That crosses the line. Looking forward to working out a solution.
