BREAKING: Johns Hopkins along with 12 peer institutions and Assoc of Amer Univ sues to stop drastic cuts in NIH funding. This is separate from lawsuit brought by 22 states, which also includes Maryland. Hopkins prez cites our 600 clinical trials that would be crippled by the cut.

📝Preprint! 1️⃣Question: How are large MTOC structures regulated by an E3 ligase? 🧵In 2020, we showed TRIM37 suppresses surrogate MTOC structures in 17q23 cancers, see ⬇️). But TRIM37 also regulates centrosomes and pathological MTOCs (Gönczy/Oegema/Desai labs). How?? ➡️our model

2️⃣ Model: My work at @ahollandlab suggests a shared blueprint within the TRIM family for assembly regulation. Akin to TRIM5a in HIV restriction, TRIM37 employs an assembly-driven E3 activation process but is uniquely tailored for MTOC control via its TRAF domain. ➡️Impact

@JSheltzer Utilize a PDX (patient-derived xenograft) mouse model, inject the drugs separately, and assess their effect on tumors and side effects simultaneously. Pick the one with the highest tumor shrinkage and lower side effects.

A genie gives you two new cancer drugs. One drug will receive FDA approval while the other will fail in clinical testing. The genie challenges you to identify the drug that will succeed in the future. You can perform one experiment on each drug - what experiment do you choose?
