Today is a great day for Birmingham as passengers ride on the Camp Hill line for the first time in 80 years. When I took over, the project was heavily delayed and over budget. We got a grip, and the fantastic team worked around the clock to get delivered.

Back in 2017 we said we’d get this done. Plenty doubted it. But once the funding was secured in 2021, it was never in doubt. Good to see it finally delivered, thanks to everyone who played a part to bring trains back to the Camp Hill line after more than 80 years.

It’s great to see the first trains arriving at #Willenhall and #Darlaston today as these new stations open. Bringing these stations online ushers in the start of a new transportation revolution in the region, which has been a priority for me from day one.

@RichParkerLab Strong move, skills investment is long overdue. Now make sure those apprenticeships actually lead to real jobs, not just short-term training stats!

We need an army of young builders to transform the West Midlands. So I’m putting £75m to train 12,000 young people into much-needed construction jobs through apprenticeships and up-skilling. This will support the region as we build more social homes, retrofit houses and construct better regional transport links.

Many councils still think more retail = recovery, but that model is gone, The future high street is food , leisure experiences, independent businesses, events etc If Dudley leans into that, it could absolutely turn things around. Look at Altrincham, Margate and Shrewsbury who have successfully revived their high streets, and what Dudley could copy from them.

I’ve been dedicated to improving our local transport networks and so I’m very happy to announce good news for this region’s rail users. Five new stations are opening in the next few weeks. On Thursday 19 March, Darlaston and Willenhall will open on the Black Country Line. On Tuesday 7 April, Kings Heath, Moseley Village, and Pineapple Road all open on the Camp Hill Line. These new stations will restore passenger services to areas that have been unserved for decades, and offer faster connections to Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

@RichParkerLab @TransportForWM Drivers should drive safely, absolutely. But after a year of pothole promises, many ‘repairs’ across the West Midlands last only weeks before reopening. That’s a road safety issue too.

Making journeys safer is an important priority for me. I’m investing hundreds of millions of pounds in repairing our roads in the West Midlands, but we all have our part to play as drivers. A single life lost due to dangerous driving is too many. This week @TransportForWM shared this video, which asks drivers to make their own pledges to road safety. My own is that I will always drive safely, and continue to campaign to make our roads safer.
