And that's how the "cry it out" sleep training method was born. Watson treated babies like experiments. "Never hug or kiss your child," he wrote. "Shake hands with them in the morning." After all, mothers needed rest, to attend to their husbands and households. Watson had four children. Three attempted suicide. One succeeded. And we still follow it today. Because once you convince a mother to ignore her baby's cries, you've broken something primal.

She may be the genetic mother. She isn't the woman the newborn wants. It's the milk, voice, skin, smell of the unrelated woman (whose face didn't survive the video edit) who most effectively calms infant stress and blunts pain response. Surrogacy always forces children to sacrifice for adults.

@AVGirl4Life The toddler would learn to swim faster with a floating device, which would avoid the unhelpful traumatic experience of near drowning. Just because it worked for some of us when we were kids, doesn't mean that it is the most effective way.

Hey parents: Don't lie to your kids about Santa. Tell them from day 1 that Santa represents the spirit of Christmas, the spirit of giving - not that he's a literal dude delivering presents. But ask them not to ruin it for other kids. It's one of my biggest parenting regrets. Just trust me. Keep Christ at the forefront of the Christmas experience, and Santa as just a cool story and tradition for many.
