WHO Rep Dr. Arvind Mathur and Minister of Health Dr. Elia A.A. dos Reis Amaral held their first high-level health dialogue for 2025, discussing dengue, rabies, health system strengthening & preparations for hosting the 79th WHO SEARO Regional Committee Meeting in Sept 2026. 🇹🇱

Since 2022, over 789,000 doses have been given to school-aged children, reaching 93% national coverage with equal treatment for girls and boys. A new survey in 2026 will measure infection intensity to guide progress toward the WHO 2030 goal of reducing heavy infections below 2%.

Last Week, WHO together with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, launched the second survey on soil-transmitted helminths (STH) to review deworming services from 2022–2025 in Timor-Leste.

Today, WHO Timor-Leste Representative Dr. Arvind Mathur joined the national workshop on Strengthening the Pre-School Education System for Quality at City 8.

Timor-Leste has a powerful opportunity to raise school quality across all levels investing in resilience, well-being, and the future prosperity of its next generation. The workshop itself was attended by municipal education directors and international partners.

Assessments of 333 schools revealed that while 35% already meet certification standards, urgent gaps remain in fire safety, accessibility, menstrual waste disposal, and protection from harassment. By integrating HAMAHAN benchmarks into upcoming accreditation standards.

Under Health Minister Dr Elia A.A. dos Reis Amaral's leadership, the government will now produce its own medical oxygen. HNGV staff will receive training to operate the plant. "Medical oxygen is a life-saving drug for which there is no substitute," said WHO Rep Dr Arvind Mathur.
