Africa Minerals Strategy Group Re-elects Dele Alake as Chairman.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has been re-elected as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) at its 2026 Annual General Meeting in Riyadh, having first assumed the role in 2024 at the Future Minerals Forum, and thanked African ministers for renewing their trust while approving a more inclusive, regionally balanced leadership structure.
Alake stressed that Africa must work collectively to unlock real value from its mineral resources through stronger governance, agreed financial contributions and accountability, alongside infrastructure development, aligned policies and deliberate value addition supported by credible financing frameworks to drive sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

“We must take the bull by the horns in financing our future. Never again shall we wait for capital to trickle in. With sovereign funds, blended vehicles, and innovative tools like the Africa Mineral Token, Africa shall finance Africa. To safeguard this sovereignty, we must guard our cobalt, lithium, graphite, gold, and rare earths, not as fragmented states but as one continental bloc, wielding collective power in global supply chains,” the President submitted.

President @officialABAT, GCFR, has called for a complete overhaul of the global financial architecture governing Africa’s mineral resources, saying it was time for African nations to not only finance their own mineral sectors but also assert their influence and control over African products’ global supply chains.
This, the President stated, had become necessary if African nations’ sovereignty is to be protected, just as he recommended collective action by development allies and partners to bring Africa’s mineral economy to reality for the benefit of the continent.
President @officialABAT, represented by Vice President @KashimSM, called for these decisive actions at the Second Africa Minerals Strategy Group (@africaminerals_) High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa, held on the margins of the 80th Session of the @UN General Assembly in New York City.

Alongside H.E. Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Hon. Dele Alake, and the Secretary-General of AMSG, H.E. Moses Engadu, I joined the Second African Mineral Strategy Group High-Level Roundtable on critical minerals development in Africa, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
With Africa holding more than half of the world’s critical mineral reserves, our discussions focused on how the continent can move beyond extraction and build partnerships that truly benefit our people.
Lagos must continue to play its role as a hub for innovation, finance, and collaboration as Africa takes its rightful place in the global minerals economy.
