Four in 10 cancer cases worldwide could be prevented. •15% of all new cancer cases are caused by tobacco •10% by infections •3% by alcohol A new @WHO study has examined 30 preventable causes, including high body mass index, physical inactivity, air pollution, ultraviolet radiation – and for the first time – nine cancer-causing infections. For a privileged few, early detection, innovations in health products and improvement in treatment quality — including medicines and therapy techniques — is driving survival beyond 70%. For most people, cancer remains a death sentence—compounded by devastating financial hardship. @WHO is working with governments to advance policies and equitable access to tools that protect people and families.
