In addition to Guilford County Schools using links to SPLC's education offshoot, so does the NC Dept. of Public Instruction (DPI). DPI's link uses Learning for Justice's former name "Teaching Tolerance." At the bottom of the page, it says it was last modified on 3/3/26. After Rick Southerland, another expected Democratic nominee, dropped out when it was revealed he lived with a convicted sex offender, now candidate Wendy Dale’s criminal history has exploded into public view. Multiple convictions, jail stints, probation violations, stalking charges, and bankruptcy filings. Total dysfunction from a local party that wants to run public education. #ncpol

$6.85M in settlements spanning the Kelly lawsuits. Former Deputy Supt. Rick Holliday was involved in moving Kelly around anytime there was a complaint about him & resigned before anyone could fire him. The moving around of problem teachers is known as "pass the trash," and it happens all the time.

A North Carolina school district COVERED for a serial child mol*ster for 26 years... ...then quietly settled the civil suits for a MIND-BOGGLING $7 MILLION DOLLARS NOT A SINGLE ADMINISTRATOR WAS CHARGED. NOT A SINGLE ADMINISTRATOR WAS FIRED. NOT A SINGLE ADMINISTRATOR WENT TO JAIL. New Hanover County Schools has now paid nearly $7 MILLION for letting chemistry teacher Michael Kelly se*ually abuse MORE THAN 30 CHILDREN over 26 years. During Kelly's 2019 sentencing, the prosecutor revealed that Kelly told police the SCHOOL DISTRICT had already investigated him for the abuse... ...and CLEARED HIM. Without EVER contacting law enforcement. The NC Attorney General opened a FOUR-YEAR investigation into the district. He confirmed: "Administrators failed to protect children." ...but the statute of limitations had run out. Every single school administrator kept their job and wasn't even charged. This is genuinely one of the most shocking cases I've ever read. The final payout was was nearly $6.8 MILLION... and the last portion of that was just paid last week. Absolutely horrifying.

Audit reports are usually a snooze-fest. If you’ve sat through any, you know. But earlier today, at our UNC System Board meeting, @NCStateAuditor Dave Boliek told us that his office is currently working on an audit of professor tenure in our NC public universities that will look at costs, efficacy, etc. His report might be spicy, depending on how you view the idea of ‘tenure’. It’s no secret that it has been a hot item in higher ed, recently, and I’ll be looking forward Dave’s report.

The House has overridden the veto on HB87, which opts the state into the Trump administration's tax credit school choice program. #ncpol #ncga Gov. Stein had vetoed it saying he was waiting for guidance — which came last year & was updated again in Jan./Feb. of this year. Ed. Sec.
