Earlier today our CEO, @hmryder paid a courtesy call to H.E. @derbew_yimam , Ambassador of Ethiopia to the People's Republic of China, during which they exchanged ideas on deepening collaboration between DR and Ethiopia. The discussion explored how we can support Ethiopia’s investment promotion efforts in China and showcase the country’s dynamic economic opportunities to Chinese investors and partners. The conversation also highlighted broader opportunities to strengthen Africa–China cooperation, including identifying strategic partnerships that can contribute to sustainable development and economic transformation across the continent.

As African countries seek to expand their market horizons, signing formal trade deals is a more strategic choice than relying on default conditions even when market access appears free. bit.ly/3NxhxkU

A reminder that the *total* activity in these 10 busiest ports on the continent is approximately the same managed by #China’s 3rd largest port (Shenzhen, Guangdong province). We have much to do to improve our regional logistics to the appropriate scale for global manufacturing

China’s rise from $475 GDP per capita in 1994 to over $13,000 today didn’t happen by accident. Institutions like the China Development Bank helped finance the roads, railways, ports and power systems that powered growth. That’s the point our experts make in their latest article on @AfricanBizMag : development banks can drive real transformation when they are built to take strategic risks. Our CEO Hannah @hmryder in an interview with @NewsCentralTV explains what the proposed early harvest agreement means for countries like South Africa. Duty free access creates new opportunities, but success will depend on whether African businesses can scale production and whether governments provide the policy support needed to compete in the Chinese market. Summits can signal ambition. The Mattei Plan’s framing is politically important. But real change shows up in: • Who sets priorities • Who designs projects • Who manages delivery • Who answers for results If that doesn’t change, the structure stays the same — even if the language improves.

So what’s likely? Some new projects. Some corridor investments. Some debt restructuring. But unless decision-making power and implementation control shift, this looks more like continuity than transformation.

The 2nd Italy–Africa Summit (Addis Ababa, Feb 2026) was framed as “progressive”; held on African soil, aligned with AU week, signaling partnership. But beyond optics and viral moments, the real question is: What changed economically? And will it shift outcomes for African communities?
