1/ The world is very rapidly running out of refined fuel due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade, according to a new Goldman Sachs report, with only 45 days' worth of stockpiles of jet fuel, naphtha, and LPG remaining. Rationing, surcharges, and mass cancellations are forecast. ⬇️

Women are sharing live locations, checking the backseats of cars, carrying their keys between their knuckles and holding their hands over their drinks. Men are doing 3 hour podcasts about how unfair it is that women don't smile at them.

Six nights. More than 600 traffic stops. Nashville's Latino neighborhoods. Bent license plates. High beams. Broken headlights. A collaborative investigation by Lighthouse Reports, Mother Jones, the Nashville Banner, and NewsChannel 5 reviewed 50-plus hours of bodycam footage and a million ICE records. Here is what the footage shows: troopers asking drivers where they were born. ICE agents flagging Plaza Mariachi as a landmark for targeting. Troopers "typically quick to release drivers who appeared white or Black and spoke with an American accent." Of 47 stops reviewed, 25 drivers appeared Hispanic. 18 of 20 arrests were of Hispanic drivers. ICE called them "the worst of the worst illegal criminal aliens." The Nashville Banner's analysis found at most 40 of those arrested had prior convictions. ICE's press release said 95. Noem traveled to Nashville to stand in front of cameras and say these were all criminals. A US citizen of Middle Eastern descent was stopped and cited. The charge was later dismissed because her license had been reinstated. ICE cannot legally conduct routine traffic stops. So the operation used state troopers as the workaround - pretextual stops to hand people to federal agents. That is not a theory. It is in the footage.

🚨BREAKING: ICE and Tennessee state police have been illegally using traffic stops as an excuse to check immigration status. The Fourth Amendment requires probable cause. You don’t get to pull people over just because you think they might be immigrants. But that’s exactly what happened. Troopers used minor excuses… bent plates, window tint, temporary tags… not to enforce traffic laws, but to hand people over to ICE. In many cases, they ignored actual violations just to keep the stop going long enough for ICE to step in. That’s called a pretextual stop, and when it’s based on race or ethnicity, it crosses into a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment… meaning the government cannot target people differently based on race. And the evidence… Officers were recorded saying things like, “They’re definitely not English speakers,” while choosing who to stop, while entire neighborhoods with large Latino populations were targeted. That’s racial profiling. Then there’s due process… The Fifth Amendment guarantees that people… citizens and non-citizens…cannot be deprived of liberty without fair legal procedures. But people were detained, processed, and deported through a pipeline designed to move fast, not fairly. Even those who were legally in the U.S., like asylum seeker, were still arrested and deported. One man was labeled a gang member, because of tattoos… And he was deported. But it gets worse. ICE cannot legally conduct routine traffic stops… So. they partnered with state troopers to get around that limitation. In other words… they used local police as a loophole. Meanwhile, these operations didn’t just violate rights… they made communities more dangerous. In Memphis, after similar deployments, high-speed chases increased by over 400%. One chase, which started over headlights, ended with a crash involving a woman and an infant. AND the same federal agents tied to this operation have already led to wrongful arrests, chaos in multiple states, and even U.S. citizens being detained. It’s bad enough for federal agents to violate the constitution, but when you add in state power… The constitution starts becoming optional.

🚨 🇺🇦🇷🇺 Ukraine just took out Russia's second-largest oil refinery in a long-range drone strike that disabled three of its four crude distillation units. -Kirishi refinery, owned by Surgutneftegaz, halted all processing -Three of four crude distillation units damaged, the core component every refinery depends on -Refinery sits 800 km from the Ukrainian border, deep inside Russia in the Leningrad region -Capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, roughly 7% of Russia's total oil refining volume -Key supplier of diesel to both Russia's domestic market and export channels -Repair timeline unknown, but multiple secondary units also damaged -Confirmed by Ukraine's Security Service This is the largest single blow Ukraine has landed on Russia's oil sector in the entire war. Kirishi is not a peripheral facility. It is one of the central pillars of Russian fuel production and a major source of diesel for both civilians and the front. Taking out three of its four CDUs means the refinery cannot function in any meaningful capacity until those units are rebuilt, and you do not rebuild crude distillation units in days. You rebuild them in months under Western sanctions that block the parts you need. Ukraine has been quietly grinding down Russia's $3 trillion war economy with these long-range drone strikes for months. Pipelines, ports, refineries, tankers. The war that nobody talks about anymore is still very much being fought, and Kyiv just delivered one of its biggest blows yet. Source: Reuters

The CDC quietly stopped helping states test for infectious diseases like rabies. RFK Jr. is gutting critical public health services and making our country less safe. I'm calling on him to answer for his dangerous choices.

#canada #quebec

Correct: when the Democrats won full control of the Virginia state gov't for the first time in 27 years in 2019, the very first thing they did was... not pass a counter-gerrymander against Republicans. Instead, they passed a state constitutional amendment setting up an independent redistricting commission, and they gave up the power to draw districts entirely. What resulted was messy, but gave Virginia a lot of competitive districts that neither side particularly liked, but publicly admitted were fair. That was a very public exercise of civic virtue and anyone opposed to partisan gerrymandering should commend them for it.
Stickballruss@Stickballruss

@ForwardCarolina Because their constitution doesn't force them to like in VA, that's why.

The doctor being unwell, the short incubation period, two unrelated passengers being unwell, are all not great signs. Either a rat infestation of South American rats on board has been missed (and must be located before they disembark into a local population) Or we’ve got novel transmission of a non-Andes strain of hantavirus, which would be even more alarming. The exact time when we need good heath policy leadership in the US and we have fucking RFK Jr.

As a reporter on the ground, @SecRubio , I can tell you unequivocally that the only entity bombing and killing civilians in Lebanon on a daily basis is the Israeli army. Almost 3,000 dead since March 2nd. More than 100 medical professionals. Almost 200 children. All killed by Israel.

This is a big concern because the patient was noted to be symptomatic during flight & died a day later. Presumption is that she would be shedding virus and prolonged close contact here would be sufficient for transmission to nearby passengers. Monitoring & isolating contacts will be key but complicated if passengers were en route to other countries after landing etc #Hantavirus
