Athletes hear it all the time:
“You need the newest gear.”
“You need the most expensive equipment.”
“You need what everyone else has.”
But history — and experience — keeps proving something different.
Olympic athletes. Professional athletes. Elite competitors in every sport.
Many of them reached the highest levels without the flashiest equipment.
Because equipment doesn’t create greatness.
Confidence, skill, and preparation do.
I’ve actually been reminded of this recently in my own life.
I’ve always loved golf. When I was younger, people told me I shouldn’t play because it would mess up my softball swing. But I still found ways to get by — probably because I was naturally a righty who got switched over to the left side when I was 13.
These days I don’t play softball anymore, but I still enjoy getting out on the golf course.
And here’s the funny part…
I haven’t gone out and bought the $500–$1000 set of clubs. With little ones at home, there are plenty of other places that money can go — their sports, their activities, their experiences.
So when I play, I use my husband’s clubs.
And those clubs?
They were hand-me-downs from my brother.
Nothing fancy. Nothing new.
But when I step onto the tee box…
I’m often hitting it farther than everyone else.
Not because of the clubs.
Because I trust my ability instead of relying on the equipment.
And that’s something every young athlete should understand:
The best players aren’t defined by what they own.
They’re defined by:
• Their confidence
• Their preparation
• Their work ethic
• Their belief in themselves
Don’t wait until you have the “perfect” gear to believe in your game.
The most powerful equipment you’ll ever have is the confidence you bring with you.

Slumps aren’t mechanical most of the time. They’re mental.
You start pressing. Overthinking. Trying to force results.
And the tighter you squeeze, the worse it feels.
A slump doesn’t mean you’re exposed. It doesn’t mean coaches were wrong about you. It means you’re human.
Here’s how you get out:
👉🏻Go back to process, not results.
👉🏻Simplify to one cue.
👉🏻Control your body language.
👉🏻Stay aggressive.
👉🏻HAVE FUN
Don’t panic.
Don’t reinvent yourself.
Stay steady. Compete anyway.

STOP waiting to update college coaches until things are going well. 🚨🥎
Your high school season is NOT just about stats.
It’s about showing coaches who you are in every situation.
Here’s what to do — no matter your role:
🔥 If you’re playing:
Send quick updates every few weeks with:
• Stats
• Schedule
• Short video clips
• Your role on the team
Keep it simple. Keep it consistent.
⸻
💪 If you’re not starting:
This is where you stand out.
Tell coaches how you’re:
• Supporting your teammates
• Getting extra reps
• Improving your skills
• Growing through the experience
They respect resilience more than perfection.
⸻
🩹 If you’re injured:
Never go silent.
Update them on:
• Rehab progress
• Recovery timeline
• How you’re staying engaged
• Your return plan
Silence hurts recruiting more than an injury ever will.
⸻
What coaches are REALLY evaluating:
Not just performance…
They’re watching your:
✔ Communication
✔ Consistency
✔ Accountability
✔ Growth mindset
✔ Love for the game
Anyone can update coaches when they’re winning.
The athletes who get recruited are the ones who communicate when things are hard, quiet, or uncertain.

🚨 COMMITTED? READ THIS FIRST. 🚨
Committing to a college is NOT the finish line.
It’s the moment expectations begin.
When you say YES to a school, you’re also saying yes to:
⚠️ Higher academic standards
⚠️ Faster, stronger competition
⚠️ Intense strength & conditioning
⚠️ Accountability every single day
⚠️ Representing a program bigger than yourself
College coaches are not expecting you to arrive and get ready.
They expect you to arrive ready.
That means before Day 1 you should already be preparing:
📚 Academically — time management, discipline, study habits
🥎 Athletically — strength, conditioning, skill development
🍎 Nutritionally — understanding how to fuel your body for performance, recovery, and endurance
🧠 Mentally — resilience, coachability, leadership
Proper nutrition is a HUGE transition for college athletes.
It’s not about dieting.
It’s about learning how to:
✔ Fuel workouts and games
✔ Recover faster after training
✔ Maintain energy through long days
✔ Support strength gains and injury prevention
Many athletes struggle early in college not because they lack talent…
But because they never learned how to take care of their body like a college athlete.
Here’s the reality:
The athletes who thrive don’t just train harder.
They prepare smarter.
They show up ready in the classroom, on the field, in the weight room — and at the dining table.
Because when you step on campus…
There is no “getting comfortable.”
There is only being ready.

🚨 STOP WAITING FOR THE COACH TO CALL YOU. 🚨
If you’re serious about playing in college…
this might be the move that separates you.
Not another highlight clip.
Not another Instagram post.
Not another “just checking in” email.
📞 A phone call.
Yes — your voice.
Your confidence.
Your initiative.
Because here’s the truth:
College coaches are recruiting PEOPLE.
Not just stats.
Not just exit velo.
Not just pop time.
When you call, they hear:
• How you communicate
• How you handle pressure
• How prepared you are
• How badly you want it
Most athletes won’t do it.
They’ll overthink it.
They’ll wait.
They’ll hope.
Be different.
Prepare what you’re going to say.
Take a breath.
Dial the number.
Even if it goes to voicemail — you just showed maturity most recruits never do.
Recruiting doesn’t reward the most comfortable athlete.
It rewards the one who takes ownership.
📞 Be the one who makes the call.
