古い携帯ゲーム機の画面に広がる黒い染み。あれは液晶の故障ではなく、液晶を挟んでいる偏光板が腐っています。
保護フィルムに酢酸セルロース系の素材が使われていて、湿気と熱で加水分解して酢酸が出る。だから劣化した個体は酢のにおいがします。名前も映画フィルム保存の世界から来た「ビネガーシンドローム」。酸が自分の分解を促すので、始まると加速します。
まだ研究途中ではありますが、自作エミュレータで暫定的に再現しました。輪郭が「完全な円ではなく、液晶にあわせたゆるい四角に近い○」なのが肝で、距離の測り方の肩の数字を2.6にすると、円と四角のあいだのその形になります。また、ビネガーシンドロームにはいくつかのタイプがあるようです。設定から影響の深さやタイプを変えられるようにしています。
動画は深さ0.65。縁では画素が透けて、芯ではほぼ潰れます。

This is the most GORGEOUS Gameboy emulation I've ever seen. The creator was insanely dedicated to replicating the look and feel of the original Gameboy screen, replicating not just the software, but the physical properties of the screen and how light interacts with it. BEAUTIFUL!
