No, a 3-second eccentric isn't pointless for hypertrophy. Controlled lowering (around 2-4 seconds) boosts time under tension and muscle damage, both proven drivers of growth. Studies comparing 2s vs 4s eccentrics show similar overall quad hypertrophy, with no major edge to either when sets/reps are equated. It's good form practice that helps without needing to overcomplicate. Faster drops can work too if you stay controlled.
