Yesterday was one of the most hectic days of my life while travelling. It took us 18 hours to reach Munnar. We got stuck in Annamalai National Park for eight hours on a 10 km stretch. We were supposed to reach Munnar by 4 pm but arrived around 1:30 a.m. We almost ran out of fuel, there was no network in the national park, and our family was worried about us. As girls, we struggled to find a washroom for 8-10 hours. We all say that India is not using the full potential of its tourism, but do we have that kind of infrastructure? One long weekend and every tourist place gets packed.

His name is Colonel Prasad Purohit. He joined the Indian Army in 1994 through the Officers Training Academy in Chennai. He was commissioned into the Maratha Light Infantry. He served in counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2005 before moving to Military Intelligence. On September 8, 2008, a bomb blast near a mosque in Malegaon, Maharashtra, killed 31 people and injured over 300. Most victims were Muslim pilgrims gathered for Friday prayers during Ramadan. Two months later, in November 2008, the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad arrested Prasad Purohit. He was accused of masterminding the attack. He was stripped of his uniform and suspended from service. He maintained throughout his imprisonment that he had infiltrated the organisation in question as part of his official Military Intelligence duties and had been reporting to his superiors. He spent 2791 days in prison. Nearly nine years. His children grew up without him. They never visited him in jail. His wife Aparna attended court hearings alone for years. A bail petition filed in the Supreme Court in 2011 took seven years to be heard. The Supreme Court finally granted him bail on August 21, 2017. On July 31, 2025, a Special NIA Court in Mumbai acquitted all seven accused including Purohit. The court recorded that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The allegations regarding procurement and storage of RDX could not be substantiated with credible proof. The NIA itself had stated in 2024 that the Maharashtra ATS had planted RDX to frame the accused. He was reinstated in the Indian Army. In September 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel with his original seniority restored. The Army has since cleared him for promotion to Brigadier. His wife Aparna said after the acquittal a jail is a living crematorium. When Prasad was sent to jail, all his identities were stripped from him. The scars of 17 years will remain. The court acquitted all accused. The Malegaon blast case is closed. The truth of what happened in Malegaon on September 8, 2008, remains officially unresolved. Her name is Rupan Deol Bajaj. She was an IAS officer of the Punjab cadre serving as Special Secretary Finance. One of the most senior women in the Punjab government in 1988. On the night of July 18, 1988, she attended a dinner party at the Chandigarh residence of Punjab’s Financial Commissioner SL Kapoor. Also at that party was KPS Gill. The Director General of Police, Punjab. The most powerful police officer in the state. Around 10 pm, he walked up to her and ordered her to get up and come with him. She turned to leave. He slapped her on her posterior in front of the other guests. She filed a complaint the very next day. What followed was 17 years. The police submitted a report favouring Gill. The High Court quashed her FIR. The same officer who reviewed her complaint had already given an opinion in Gill’s favour before acting as a judicial officer in the same case. She went to the Supreme Court. Her own mother told her to cry over it privately and move on. She received death threats. She was given punishment postings. She fought anyway. In 1995, the Supreme Court restored her complaint and directed prosecution. In 2005, the final verdict came. Gill was convicted under Section 354 and Section 509 of the IPC for outraging her modesty. His three month jail sentence was converted to probation. He was fined Rs 2 lakh. She declined to accept the compensation. The court ordered it be donated to women’s organisations. In 2010, she wrote to the government demanding they take back the Padma Shri given to KPS Gill. The man who slapped her was never jailed for a single day. आपका नाम समीर वानखेड़े है , आप 2008 बैच के IRS अधिकारी हैं। आपने 2021 में उन्होंने क्रूज़ शिप ड्रग केस में बड़ी कार्रवाई की थी। इसी केस में शाहरुख खान के बेटे आर्यन खान की गिरफ्तारी हुई थी। लेकिन इसके बाद मामला सिर्फ कानून तक सीमित नहीं रहा। इस केस के बाद समीर वानखेड़े पर दबाव, विवाद और राजनीतिक हमला शुरू हो गया। उन्हें NCB से हटाकर चेन्नई भेज दिया गया। बाद में ट्रिब्यूनल ने उनके ट्रांसफर को गलत, मनमाना और पक्षपातपूर्ण बताया। यानी जिस अफसर ने कार्रवाई की, उसी अफसर को सिस्टम ने साइडलाइन कर दिया। फिर 2025 में सरकार ने उनके खिलाफ चार्जशीट जारी कर दी। वह भी उस घटना के लगभग तीन साल बाद। जनवरी 2026 में ट्रिब्यूनल ने इस चार्जशीट को रद्द कर दिया। ट्रिब्यूनल ने इसे दुर्भावना और प्रक्रिया के दुरुपयोग जैसा माना। लेकिन सरकार दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट चली गई और वहां से वह आदेश पलट गया। अब पिछले हफ्ते सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने साफ कहा कि सरकार ने उनके खिलाफ जांच अधिकारी नियुक्त करने से पहले उन्हें जवाब देने का मौका नहीं दिया। यह कोई छोटी बात नहीं है। किसी भी अफसर के खिलाफ कार्रवाई से पहले उसे अपना पक्ष रखने का अधिकार होता है। यही प्राकृतिक न्याय का मूल सिद्धांत है। नोट : समीर वानखेड़े ने अपना काम किया। उन्हें अपना पक्ष रखने का मौका मिलना चाहिए!!
