@mass_ave We dumped Nixon (and even he had done some progressive things like in environment, etc), Vietnam was behind us, we thought we were finally headed in the right direction over Civil rights. Except for the interest rates it was a heady time.
Those who were around fifty years ago, do you remember all the lead up to the 200th 4th of July that’s just not happening now? TV had historical PSA’s like “200 Years Ago” and Bicentennial Minute” Barns, businesses, and fire hydrants were painted red white and blue? Now? Nothing.
@nut_history Fenway. Spent much time there, though I'm a Yankee fan. Attended graduate school at BU. Was slapped in the face by a woman who was offended that I made a derogatory remark about Carl Yastrzemski.
It's 2000, & diver Rod Macdonald has discovered something terrifying:
"Dave and I couldn’t resist the temptation to fin over to the edge of the pinnacle & look over the side...into the 200m deep abyss.
[Then] I became aware my exhaled bubbles had stopped rising upwards."

New: When a mini-drone blew up in a Special Forces soldier’s face, a Army safety specialist wrote that in the Defense Department’s “rush to solve future and enduring threats related to [unmanned aerial systems], basic explosive safety principles are being ignored.” Army Special Operations Command pushed back saying it was his opinion and not based in fact. cbsnews.com/news/pentagon-…
@JimLaPorta The investigator made the mistake of trying to word-smith when he should have just said, "don't be an idiot. Don't do the enemy's job for them."
My WWII vet dad drilled into me as a wee lad, "never point a gun at anyone, even a toy gun, unless you intend to kill them."

Shark Tank Billionaire Kevin O'leary says 2 people fighting data centers in Utah are Chinese agents. Turns out its just 2 local girls in Utah, they make a hilarious video calling him the fuck out
@cperciva I got a chuckle out of this. One of my jobs was accounting for water releases at Hoover Dam. We took the measurements in real time from the main penstocks. Realistically, you can’t account for every drop. As a joke I wrote a program that did just that.
I accidentally outed myself on a preschool field trip. We were touring a hydro dam and the tour guide said "2.8 million liters of water go through this pipe every minute; if someone needs 4 liters of water every day, how long would that last them?"
@mass_ave I like the shadow puppet one the best, but I keep thinking there must also be an illusion in the second woman added to the classic old/young woman drawing.
