Deeply honoured today to accept the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa, from the University of Manchester. 🎓 I accept this not only in my own name, but on behalf of the countless African women and girls whose courage, resilience, and leadership have shaped my life's work — many of whom will never stand on a stage like this, yet have been my greatest teachers. To the graduating Class of 2026: your degree is more than a certificate — it's an invitation to serve. Go into the world with knowledge in your minds, courage in your hearts, and humanity in all that you do. The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, was received this afternoon by H.E. General Assimi Goïta, President of the Republic of #Mali, at the Palais de Koulouba in Bamako. President Goïta welcomed the Chairperson's visit, describing it as a strong demonstration of the AU's solidarity with the Government & people of Mali. Chairperson Youssouf expressed his appreciation for the hospitality extended to him & paid tribute to Mali's rich civilisation, history & cultural heritage. He also commended the resilience of the Malian people in the face of the challenges confronting their country. The Chairperson @ymahmoudali acknowledged the efforts of President Goïta & the Malian authorities to strengthen stability & address the threat of #terrorism. Reaffirming the AU's solidarity, he stressed that terrorism knows no borders & underscored the importance of sustained collective action to confront this shared challenge. He further reaffirmed the AU's commitment to supporting Mali through its humanitarian & development challenges including through @AfricaCDC & @NEPAD_Agency. He reiterated that the AU stands ready to accompany Mali in its continued efforts to consolidate stability, strengthen national cohesion &, return to constitutional order to advance its priorities for sustainable peace & development.  He also commended President Goïta's commitment to fostering good neighbourliness & regional cooperation. President Goïta reaffirmed Mali's readiness to maintain close engagement with the AU & to continue working with the Union on matters of shared interest. Earlier in the afternoon, the Chairperson held meeting with H.E. @AbdoulayeDiop8, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of his meeting with President Goïta.
